Why can't I send my email campaign?

Common reasons an email campaign can't be sent in Raise More and how to fix each one, matched to the on-screen error messages.

If the Send button is greyed out, or you click Send and get an error, your campaign is usually missing one of the pieces Raise More needs before it can deliver. This article walks through the common reasons a campaign can't be sent and how to fix each one.

The good news is that almost every reason produces a clear on-screen message telling you what is wrong. This article lists those messages so you can match what you see to the fix.

Common reasons you can't send

You haven't saved a draft yet

Before you can send, schedule, or run an A/B test, the campaign has to be saved at least once. If it has never been saved, the Review and Send step shows:

"Before sending an A/B test, scheduling, or sending, you'll first need to: Save a Draft"

Fix: click Save a Draft. Once saved, the Send and Send Test buttons appear.

You haven't chosen who to send to

Every campaign needs a target audience, which is the list or filter of people who will receive it. If you skip this, you'll see:

"Please define a target audience in the 'To' step above."

And if you try to send anyway:

"Email campaign field "To" (target audience) is required"

Fix: open the To step and pick a saved list or build a filter that selects the people you want to reach.

Your audience filter is broken or returns nothing usable

If the audience filter can't be read or the recipient count fails to load, the Send button is disabled and you'll see:

"Error loading audience count. Please fix your audience query."

Clicking Send in that state gives: "Invalid audience query. Please fix it before sending."

Fix: go back to the To step and rebuild the audience. Removing the last filter rule and adding it again usually clears the error. If it persists, contact support.

You're missing a subject, sender, or body

A campaign can't go out without its core fields filled in. Raise More checks for a subject, an email body (both the formatted and plain-text versions), a sender name, a sender email, a target audience, and a campaign name before it will send.

Three of these have their own clear messages when you click Send:

  • "Email campaign field subject is required"

  • "From name is required"

  • "Body cannot be empty"

If one of the other required fields is missing, the message is the general one: "Error sending email campaign. Try again." In practice this is rare, because picking a sender from the dropdown fills in both the sender name and sender email at once, and saving a draft sets the campaign name.

Fix: open the Subject, Sender, and email body steps and make sure each has content. The Sender must be chosen from your list of verified emails (see below).

Your email body has no unsubscribe link

By law, every mass email must include a way to opt out. If your body is missing the unsubscribe tag, you'll see:

"Email body must contain an {unsubscribeLink} merge tag"

Fix: add the {unsubscribeLink} merge tag to your email body. It is usually placed in the footer. You can insert it from the merge field menu in the editor.

You pasted or dragged an image into the editor

Images that are pasted or dragged directly into the body don't upload correctly and will block the send with:

"Failed to save this email campaign because the body contains images that failed to upload correctly. Please use the image upload button instead of pasting or dragging images directly."

Fix: remove the pasted image and re-add it using the image upload button in the editor toolbar.

You don't have a verified sender email

The Sender step only lets you pick from emails that have been verified for your account. There is no separate "no verified sender" error message. Instead, the sender dropdown shows your verified emails plus an "Add verified email…" option. If you have no verified emails, there is nothing to choose, so you can't fill in the Sender step and the campaign stays incomplete.

To send, Raise More has to confirm you own the domain (the part after the @, like yourcampaign.com) for spam compliance.

A few things to know about verifying:

  • You cannot use a personal address from gmail.com, hotmail.com, or yahoo.com. When you try to add one, you'll see: "Sorry, our provider does not yet support gmail, etc., for spam reasons. Please use an email address with a domain you control, like info@yourcampaignforcongress.com"

  • Once one address on a domain is verified, you can add more addresses on the same domain instantly.

Fix: go to the Verified Emails settings page and click Add New Verified Email. Enter the address and sender name, then click Add. Some addresses verify immediately, and you'll see "Email identity created and verified. You can use it as an outgoing email immediately." Others show "Further action required: Please click the Finish Verification button," which means you need to finish a short domain verification step.

Bulk email is turned off for your account

Some accounts do not have mass email sending enabled. If yours is one of them, you'll see:

"Bulk email sending is disabled for your organization -- please contact support to opt into this feature"

Fix: contact support to have bulk email turned on.

Your scheduled date or time is invalid

If you schedule the send instead of sending immediately, the date and time have to fall inside an allowed window. You may see:

  • "Invalid scheduled date. Must be within next 2 weeks, to avoid accidental date selection"

  • "Invalid scheduled time. Must be beyond 10 minutes from now, to avoid accidental time selection"

Fix: pick a send time at least 10 minutes from now and no more than two weeks out.

How to check campaign readiness before sending

Work down the steps in order and confirm each one is filled in:

  1. Audience (To) is set and shows a recipient count, not an error.

  2. Sender is chosen from a verified email.

  3. Subject line has text.

  4. Body has content and includes the {unsubscribeLink} tag, with any images added through the upload button.

  5. If scheduling, the time is between 10 minutes and two weeks out.

Use the Send Test button to mail a copy to yourself first. It runs many of the same checks and lets you see the final email before it reaches your list. When everything is ready, the Send button shows your recipient count, for example "Send (1,240)."

When to contact support

Reach out to support if:

  • You need bulk email sending enabled.

  • The audience count error keeps coming back after you rebuild your filter.

  • A domain won't finish verifying after you've completed the steps.

  • You see an error not listed here, such as "Error sending email campaign. Try again," that does not clear on a second attempt.

FAQ

Why does the Send button show a number?

That number is how many people currently match your audience, so you can confirm the size before sending.

Can I send from my Gmail address?

No. You must send from an address on a domain you control. Free providers like Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo are not supported for sending.

Do I have to verify every email address I send from?

You verify the domain once. After that, additional addresses on the same domain are available right away.

I was asked to type "everyone" to confirm. Was that right?

If your audience has no filter rules, sending targets your entire database. Raise More shows a prompt warning you how many people that is and asks you to type "everyone" to confirm. If you type anything else, you'll see "Error entering confirmation phrase" and nothing sends. Only confirm if you truly mean to email every contact.

Can I edit a campaign after scheduling it?

A scheduled campaign can be unscheduled, which returns it to a draft you can edit, and then re-sent.
