How do I send an email to a specific list?

You can target a saved list when setting up an email campaign. The audience is defined using the filter builder in the "To" step, and the recipient list is locked in when you send or schedule.

Create or open a campaign

Go to Email Campaigns in the left navigation and click New Email Campaign, or open an existing draft.

Set the audience in the "To" step

In the campaign editor, find the step labeled To and click Edit Audience.

A contact table with a filter builder opens. To target a specific saved list, add a filter on the On Saved List (Name) field and select the list you want. You can combine list filters with other filters (tags, donation history, location, and so on) to narrow the audience further.

The count of matching contacts appears at the top of the step as you adjust filters: for example, "1,234 people are targeted by your current search."

When the audience looks correct, click Save Target Audience. This saves the filter as a draft and returns you to the campaign editor.

Finish the remaining steps

Complete the other steps in the editor (From, Subject, Preview Text, Content, Send time). The audience count is also shown on the button at the bottom of the Review and Send step, for example "Send (1,234)" or "Schedule (1,234)" if a send time is set.

Send or schedule

Click Send to send immediately, or set a date and time in the Send time step and click Schedule. At that point the system runs your saved filter against your current contact data and builds the final recipient list. Anyone who matches the filter at send time receives the email.

If you send immediately without setting a scheduled time, the recipient list is built at the moment you click Send.

Notes

  • The audience is not locked until you send or schedule. If contacts are added or removed from the list after you save the draft but before you send, the final count may differ from what was shown while editing.

  • If the audience filter has an error, the Send button is disabled and an error message appears below it.

  • If no audience filter is set, a warning appears in the Review and Send step and the campaign cannot be sent.
