With our new Royalty Splits feature, you can share your royalties with your collaborators or anybody else that should get a piece of the pie.
You can choose to set up splits on individual tracks or the whole release. You are also able to set up different splits on each track.
All you need is a Record Union account and to have at least 1 release distributed by us. As soon as a release has been uploaded, you can set up the splits, and they will be active from the day the release goes live.
Royalties earned on downloads and streams are not differentiated, they will be paid out equally according to the split settings. For royalty splits added on release level, revenues from downloads will be split equally between split receivers.
When you add a collaborator, they will receive an invitation by email, where they are informed that they have been invited to share royalties for a specified track/release.
Splits will be active from the upcoming royalty report. For example, splits set up in August will be active for the reporting in August which is for royalties earned in May (that’s because we report royalties with a 3 month delay).
To accurately report royalties, we temporarily disable managing splits the day we do the royalty reporting at the end of the month. Again, this is just temporarily, so managing splits will be activated again later that day.
Who can manage splits?
Splits can only be managed by the release owner (i.e. by the account the release was uploaded from). If you are a royalty split receiver looking to make changes, please contact the person who uploaded the release to make any necessary changes.
I’ve sent an invite for royalty splits but my collaborator hasn't responded yet, what happens now?
When an invitation has been sent, your collaborator has 30 days to accept it. If they haven’t accepted within that time frame, their invitation expires, and the only way they can take part in the split is if they get sent another invitation.
Until an invitation has been accepted, you (the release manager) will keep the royalty share.
What happens if a collaborator declines the offered royalty share?
If they decline, the royalty share you offered will revert back to you (the release manager).
What happens if I cancel my subscription or take the release down?
If you cancel your subscription or take a release down, the splits will stay active until your last royalty payout, but you won’t be able to make any changes to the split settings.
To be able to edit splits again, all you need to do is reactivate your subscription.
If the release has been taken down, the only way to get the splits up again is to re-upload the release and set up the splits again (as a taken-down action is irreversible).
