Why California residents see an extra disclosure

What the California Resident Investigative Consumer Report screen is and what to do on it.

If you live in California, or you're applying to a property in California, you'll see an additional screen titled "California Resident Investigative Consumer Report Request" as part of the consent flow.

Why this screen exists

California has its own consumer reporting laws that go beyond the federal rules. These laws require additional disclosures when an investigative consumer report is requested about a California resident, and they give you specific rights — including the right to request a copy of the report.

What you can do on the screen

You'll see a checkbox you can use if you'd like to receive a copy of the report. If you check it, the report will be sent to you within three business days of when it's provided to the property manager.

If you don't want a copy, you can leave the box unchecked and continue.

Is this required?

The screen itself is required for California residents — you can't move past it without acknowledging it. Whether you check the box to receive a copy of the report is your choice.
