Overview

You can connect PointCentral to RentEngine to enable secure, automated access for self-guided showings using digital locks.

This integration allows RentEngine to generate temporary access codes for prospects during showings while keeping access controlled and auditable.

What this integration does

Once connected:

  • RentEngine generates prospective resident access codes in PointCentral

  • Codes are issued automatically when a prospect arrives at the unit

  • Access is time-bound and tied to the showing

  • No manual code creation is required for self-guided tours

Step 1 — Create an administrator login in PointCentral

  1. Log in to the PointCentral Property Manager Portal

  2. Navigate to the Vacant group

  3. Click Users

  4. Select Manage logins

  5. Click Add a login

  6. Enter your email address in the Email address field

  7. Enter RentEngine – <your company name> in the Login name field

  8. Ensure Administrator is selected

  9. Click Save

PointCentral sends an email with a link to set a password and accept terms and conditions.

Complete this step before continuing.

Step 2 — Connect PointCentral to RentEngine

  1. In RentEngine, go to the Lockboxes page

  2. Click Add lockbox in the top right

  3. Select PointCentral as the lockbox type

  4. Click Add account

  5. Enter the PointCentral login name and password created in Step 1

  6. Check Auto-import all devices from PointCentral account

  7. Click Create lockboxes

PointCentral devices will now sync into RentEngine.

Code validity windows

  • Prospect-generated codes:
Valid from 1 hour before to 1 hour after the scheduled showing time

  • Manually generated codes:
Valid for the full 24-hour date selected

Important behavior notes

  • Changing a showing time does not update an existing code

    • Codes are generated only when the prospect arrives

  • Access codes created manually in PointCentral are not linked to RentEngine showings

Building and common area access

Prospect access can be extended to building or common areas.

To enable this:

  • In PointCentral, open Community Details for the Access Plan

  • Check Prospective Resident

This allows the same code to work for shared access points.

Supported user types

RentEngine creates the following user type in PointCentral:

  • Prospective residents

Troubleshooting

Codes aren’t generating

  • Confirm the unit is mapped to a PointCentral device

  • Confirm self-guided showings are enabled

  • Check that location verification (if enabled) was completed

Prospect can’t access the door

  • Confirm they’re at the correct unit

  • Confirm the showing time window

  • Check PointCentral device status
