What is open banking and why do you use it?

What open banking is, how we use it, and what to do if you don't have a UK bank account.

Written by Joe Wigoder

Open banking lets you securely share your bank account information with us, so we can verify your finances without you having to upload documents. It's often the quickest way to get a decision.

How it works

During your application, you'll be asked to connect your bank through Plaid, our open banking partner. You log in through your own bank, and the connection is read-only and encrypted.

Is it safe?

Yes. Rentmigo never sees your bank login details and can't move money from your account. Open banking is regulated in the UK by the Financial Conduct Authority.

What do you use it for?

  • Confirming your income

  • Confirming your account balances

  • Confirming your rent payments, if you join Rentmigo Rewards or credit building

What if I don't have a UK bank account?

No problem. You can upload your bank statements instead. Accounts can be held in any country, currency or language.

Can I disconnect it?

Yes, at any time through your bank. It won't affect a guarantee that's already been issued. For Rewards and credit building, Plaid asks you to reconnect every 90 days.
