Building a Membership

Overview

Memberships are subscription-based offerings with recurring billing, included treatments, discounts, and optional bonuses. They are one of the most powerful tools for building patient retention and predictable recurring revenue.

Before You Start

Have the following ready before you open the membership builder:

You'll need to know:

  • The membership name, price, and billing period (monthly or annual)

  • Which treatments are included as monthly redeemables, and whether unused treatments roll over

  • Your discount structure — what members save and on which services

  • Whether you want a sign-up bonus, a commitment period, or milestone bonuses


Upload Your Menu

  1. Login into your Admin Dashboard

  2. Upload your service menu in Catalog → Services if you haven't already.

    1. The uploader will extract a membership draft only if the uploaded content includes enough detail — at minimum, a clear description of what's included and how it's priced.

    2. A listing like "Gold Membership — $199/mo" alone isn't enough; something like "Gold Membership — $199/mo, includes 1 facial + 10% off all services" gives the AI enough to work with.

When a membership is extracted, the uploader pre-fills:

  • Name

  • Description

  • Price

Everything else — benefits, included treatments, billing terms, bonuses — must be configured manually after the draft is created.

Starting from scratch? Go to Catalog → Services → Memberships and click + Create new membership in the bottom right corner of the list. All memberships start as Draft until published.


The Basics

  1. Confirm the Membership name

    1. This is what patients see in your app. Use clear, tier-based names if you offer multiple membership levels — for example, Silver, Gold, Platinum.

  2. Set Locations

    1. If you have multiple locations, please select the location(s) this Membership is available to

  3. Verify the price per billing period

    1. The uploader fills in the price from your menu - verify it's correct

    2. The default billing period is set to monthly but this can be adjusted. 

    3. Please note, you cannot collect any initial form of payment up front or offer for patients to pay in full at this time, unless it is an annual membership.

  4. Set a minimum commitment period (Optional)

    1. If you wish to set a commitment length, click the toggle so it's green. A box will appear to the right of the toggle for you to input the minimum # of months this membership requires

      • We recommend keeping this between 3 and 6 months for best results!

  5. Upload an image

    1. This image will populate on both Membership carousels (home and shop screens) as well as Membership list and individual Membership screen.

  6. Write out the Membership description

    1. Explain the high-level benefits and any potential disclaimers of this particular membership

  7. Set up smart benefits and bonuses (see below for instructions)

  8. Publish

    1. When all required fields are complete, click Save Membership. The membership publishes as Active and immediately appears in your patient app. Patients can enroll from the home screen, shop, or membership carousel.

Editing published memberships: Changes to active memberships apply immediately to all current and future enrollments. Be careful when adjusting pricing or included treatments for a membership with existing subscribers. If you need to change terms for future members only, contact support before making edits.


Set up Smart Benefits: bonuses, discounts, and redeemables

Sign-up bonus

A sign-up bonus is an additional treatment(s) they will receive as an incentive for enrolling in this Membership and is completely optional.

💡Sign-up bonuses are redeemable upon sign up and do not expire UNLESS they cancel the membership prior to using them

  1. Click '+ Add your sign-up bonus'

  2. Input the bonus description

  3. Decide if you want to offer multiple service types (include all) or have the patient decide from a list (choose from)

    1. If choose from is selected, you will then set how many of the treatments they can choose from your list

  4. Type in the name of your treatment and select it from the list

  5. Input the number of quantities the patient will receive of that treatment

    1. If you wish to include something you offer in your practice (retail, skincare, etc), click 'Select a treatment, and '+ Create a new treatment' at the top of the list. Fill out the relevant information and click 'Save and add to membership treatments' when complete

      1. This will not create a new treatment in your shop- this is only tied to this Membership and can only be redeemed in your practice

  6. To delete any of the treatments you included, use the trash can icon to the right of the qty

  7. Once you have added all the treatments you want to offer, click 'Save and add to Membership'

💡If set up alongside monthly redeemables, these services will stack.

(Optional) Offer the First Month Free

Want to give new patients an extra incentive to sign up for a membership? You can now offer free membership for the first month using a Free Service discount.

⚠️ This is optional and set up outside the membership builder. You’ll configure it through:

  • Special Offers

  • Rewards

  • Automated Offers

This feature discounts the first month only. After that, the membership renews at full price.

Best Practice: Pair this offer with a minimum 2-month commitment to prevent patients from canceling before the second billing cycle.


Add membership benefits

A membership benefit are the discounts that are applicable with this particular membership.

💡Setting these up will be what creates the backend calculations your non-members will see and your enrolled members will pay.

In-app examples:

Non-members

Will be incentivized to enroll in a membership to save on their future in-app purchases.

Enrolled members

Will save and always see how much they are saving as an enrolled member further driving value to your membership program.

  1. Click ' Add a Membership benefit'

    1. You will be prompted to create another Membership benefit after you hit "Save"

  2. Type in a name your membership benefit (i.e. 15% of all services)

  3. Select 'in-app' to make this membership benefit to be redeemable on the app

    1. Only select in-office when the benefit is connected to something you cannot purchase from your app.

      1. Example: 15% off all retail and skincare products in-office

  4. Select discount type as percentage, dollar amount off, or free service from your shop

    1. It's popular to use dollar off for tox services since the price is typically significantly lower than the rest of your service offering.

      1. Example: $2 off per unit of toxin

  5. Enter the discount amount or the name of the free service in the box following

    1. Free services are not based on the purchase of something else or a $ threshold. It is simply a free service versus a discounted one.

  6. Set up the includes and excludes to determine what this discount will apply to in your Shop

    1. Click 'Include' when you want to include less than you want to exclude

      1. For a discount towards facial services, you'd select the specific facial services from your list and it will automatically know to exclude every other treatment from that discount/ benefit

  7. Click 'Exclude' when you want to to exclude less than you want to include

    1. For a 15% off discount of all services, you wouldn't typically want this to apply to your toxin. You would just use exclude and select all toxin services to ensure they are not receiving this discount/ benefit.

  8. Click 'Add membership benefit', to create an additional Membership benefit if needed

    1. If you wish to include something you offer in your practice (retail, skincare, etc), click 'Select a treatment, and '+ Create a new treatment' at the top of the list. Fill out the relevant information and click 'Save and add to membership treatments' when complete

      1. This will not create a new treatment in your shop- this is only tied to this Membership and can only be redeemed in your practice

  9. Once complete, click 'Save and add to membership' at the bottom right of your screen to return to the main membership build screen

Included treatments

Included treatments are the redeemables you want your enrolled members to receive at the cadence in which you want them to receive them.

  1. First decide whether or not you'd like Treatments to rollover for your Members

    1. You cannot set up by individual Treatment group

  2. "Treatment options groups" are Treatments that can be offered at a specific timeframe within their membership and stack on top of one another once they start.

    1. Continue reading if you'd like to setup an incentive milestone

  3. Type in the # of months for when this list of Treatments will become available to the member

    1. If you select at sign-up, this will be the set of treatments they can redeem monthly as an enrolled member

    2. You can also set up a treatment group to be "unlocked" after a certain amount of months. Once they unlock that treatment group, they will continue to have access to that list of redeemables on top of their monthly redeemables for the remainder of their membership

  4. Decide if you want to offer multiple service types (include all) or have the patient decide from a list (choose from)

    1. If 'choose from' is selected, you will then set how many of the treatments they can choose from a list

      1. Best practice is to always offer treatments that are approx. the same cost as the monthly fee of the membership

  5. Type in the name of your treatment to select it from the list and input the number of quantities the patient will receive of that treatment

    1. If you wish to include something you offer in your practice (retail, skincare, etc), click 'Select a treatment, and '+ Create a new treatment' at the top of the list. Fill out the relevant information and click 'Save and add to membership treatments' when complete

      1. This will not create a new treatment in your shop- this is only tied to this Membership and can only be redeemed in your practice

  6. To delete any of the treatments you included, use the trash can icon to the right of the qty

(Optional) Milestone bonuses

A redeemable that will unlock after a member has been enrolled for a certain period of time. Think of this as a way to thank them for their loyalty.

💡Milestone bonuses are redeemable upon sign up and do not expire UNLESS they cancel the membership prior to using them

  1. Click '+ Add milestone bonuses'

  2. Input the bonus description

  3. Designate when you'd like these options to become available to your members

  4. Decide if you want to offer multiple service types (include all) or have the patient decide from a list (choose from)

AI-Generated Memberships

From the Memberships tab in Catalog → Services, you can use the Generate Memberships action to have the AI build draft memberships for your practice. What gets generated depends on whether your previously uploaded service files included memberships.

  • All generated memberships are created as drafts — nothing is published until you review and approve it.

  • Generation is based on your catalog's active services and products at the time you run it.

If your uploaded files included memberships

The AI attempts to recreate those memberships as drafts in the Memberships tab, using the information from your uploaded files as the starting point.

If your uploaded files did not include memberships

The AI generates draft memberships based on your practice's currently active services and products in the catalog.

Review before publishing. AI-generated memberships are a starting point. Check the name, pricing, benefits, and terms before publishing to make sure everything reflects your actual offering.
