Learn how to enable browser and desktop notifications so you never miss a new text message. This guide shows you how to allow pop-up alerts in Chrome, Safari, Firefox, and Edge on your Windows PC or Mac.
β¨ When You Need This Guide
This guide is for you if:
You want a pop-up alert to appear on your screen when a new text message arrives.
You are not being notified of new messages and think you might have blocked notifications by accident.
You need to know how to allow or unblock notifications for Aloha in your web browser.
You've allowed browser notifications, but nothing is appearing on your desktop.
How it Works: A Two-Step Process
To get alerts on your screen, you need to give permission in two places. Think of it like a relay race: the browser gets the "baton" (the alert) from Aloha, and the operating system helps the browser carry it across the finish line (your screen).
Your Web Browser: First, you must tell your browser (like Chrome or Safari) that it's okay for Aloha to send alerts.
Your Computer's OS: Second, you must tell your computer (Windows or macOS) that it's okay for your browser to show you those alerts.
You must complete Part 1 before Part 2 will work!
Part 1: β Allowing Notifications in Your Web Browser
Find the browser you use below and follow the steps. This gives Aloha permission to create alerts.
Google Chrome
Go to Settings > Privacy and security > Site Settings > Notifications.
Look under the "Allowed to send notifications" section. If the Aloha site isn't there, you can add it manually.
Mozilla Firefox
Go to Settings > Privacy & Security.
Scroll down to the "Permissions" section and click the Settings... button next to "Notifications."
Find the Aloha URL in the list and make sure its status is set to Allow.
Microsoft Edge
Go to Settings > Cookies and site permissions > All sites.
Find and select the Aloha website from the list.
Set the Notification permission to Allow.
Apple Safari (on Mac)
With Safari open, click Safari in the top menu bar, then Settings... (or Preferences...).
Go to the Websites tab, then click Notifications on the left.
Find the Aloha site in the list and set its permission to Allow.
Part 2: β Allowing Notifications on Your Desktop
Now that the browser has permission, let's make sure your computer will actually show you the alerts.
On a Windows PC
Open the Start Menu and go to Settings > System > Notifications.
Make sure the main "Notifications" toggle is turned ON at the top.
Scroll down to the app list ("Notifications from apps and other senders") and make sure the toggle for your web browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge) is also turned ON.
On a Mac
Click the Apple menu (ο£Ώ) and go to System Settings... (or System Preferences...).
Select Notifications from the sidebar.
Find your web browser (e.g., Safari, Chrome) in the application list.
Make sure "Allow Notifications" is turned ON and choose an alert style you like (Banners is recommended).
π‘ If Alerts Still Aren't Working
If you've checked both settings and alerts still aren't appearing, here are some common solutions.
What You Might Notice | Why It's Happening | How to Fix It |
I allowed notifications, but I still don't get pop-ups. | You may have only completed one of the two required steps, or your computer's "Focus" mode may be active. | Double-check both Part 1 and Part 2 of the instructions above. Also, make sure your computer's Focus Assist (Windows) or Focus mode (Mac) is turned OFF, as this silences all notifications. |
I can't find the Aloha website in my browser's settings. | You may have never been prompted for notifications, or you may have cleared your browser settings recently. | Go to the Aloha website tab. In the address bar, click the icon to the left of the URL on your browser. You should see a toggle to turn notifications on or off directly from there. This is the fastest shortcut. |
Alerts work on one computer but not another. | Notification permissions are specific to each browser on each computer. They do not carry over with your user account. | You must repeat the setup process (both Part 1 and Part 2) on every computer where you want to receive alerts. |
π You'll Know It's Working When:
When a new text message arrives in Aloha, a small banner or pop-up alert appears on your computer screen, even if you are working in another application.
