Can I block websites using Roots?

I blocked the app, but I can still access it through the browser. How do I stop this?

We're here to help.

First off, we know this can be frustrating. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience.

In addition to app blocking, you can also block websites using Roots.

Website blocking applies on Safari, Chrome, Firefox, or any other browser you have on your phone.

Here's how it works:

  1. Visit the website you want to block on "Safari" (This is required for it to show up on the list to block in Roots)

  2. Go to your blocking set up in Roots, and "Select Apps"

  3. Type the website you want to block in the search bar

  4. Select the website from the block list, and save

  5. Now, this website should be blocked according to the rules you have set up

If you’ve added an app to the block list and its website is blocked in Safari, but you’re still able to access it through Chrome, please make sure to manually add the website to the block list as well.

There are a few limitations to be aware of:

Due to Apple limitations, the following are worth noting:

  1. When you block websites, private browsing in Safari will be disabled by Apple (otherwise it’s not possible to track and limit usage)

  2. Some websites can also block related apps from the same company. Ex: Facebook.com may also block WhatsApp and Instagram
