How to block websites using Roots

Updated over a month ago

In addition to app blocking, you can also block websites using Roots.

Here's how it works:

  1. Visit the website you want to block on Safari

    1. (this is required for it to show up on the list to block in Roots)

  2. Go to your blocking set up in Roots, and "select apps"

  3. Type the website you want to block in the search bar

  4. Select the website from the block list, and save

  5. Now, this website should be blocked according to the rules you have set up

There are a few limitations to be aware of:

Due to Apple limitations, the following are worth noting:

  1. When you block websites, private browsing in safari will be disabled by Apple (otherwise it’s not possible to track and limit usage)

  2. Some websites can also block related apps from the same company

    1. ex: facebook.com may also block WhatsApp and Instagram
