Fix a Note Stuck on Scribbling…

Written by Melissa Duarte

In ScribbleVet, a note that stays Scribbling… for more than 5 minutes needs troubleshooting. Normal scribbling finishes in 1–2 minutes. Work through the steps below in order. The two most common fixes are refreshing ScribbleVet and deleting untitled or inaudible recordings from the visit.

Note: If a note is still stuck after these steps, contact the Support team. See Still need help? at the end of this article for what to include.

Steps to fix a note stuck on Scribbling…

  1. Wait up to 5 minutes. Scribbling… means the note is still processing.

  2. Select the X next to Scribbling… to cancel the process, then start the scribble again.

  3. Force close and reopen ScribbleVet, or hard refresh the website with Cmd+R (Mac) or Ctrl+R (Windows).

  4. Check your internet connection, then reload ScribbleVet.

  5. Confirm ScribbleVet is on the latest version via your device's app store, or via your browser settings if you use the web version. See Compatible Devices for details.

  6. Open the appointment and delete any untitled or inaudible recordings. See Delete an untitled or inaudible recording below.

  7. Open ScribbleVet on a different device (phone, computer, or tablet) to rule out a device-specific issue.

Delete an untitled or inaudible recording

An incomplete audio file can block a visit from scribbling. Delete recordings from the original device used to make the recording.

To delete a recording from a browser:

  1. Expand the Transcript section of the appointment.

  2. Select Recordings and identify any recording that is untitled, inaudible, or unusually short (for example, 0:04).

  3. Click the three dots (⋮) next to the recording and select Delete. The deletion may take a few seconds. After the recording is deleted, the note begins scribbling.

To delete a recording in the mobile app:

  1. Tap the recording you want to delete.

  2. Under the Info section, select Delete from the Actions section.

Warning: Once a recording is deleted, it cannot be recovered. Recordings are available to review and download for up to 90 days, so play a recording before deleting it to confirm it is the correct one.

Prevent delays before they happen

  • Close any app that uses your microphone (such as Zoom, Siri, or Google Assistant) before you start a recording. These apps can hold the microphone and cause untitled or partial recordings.

  • Keep your microphone volume above 60% and stay 6–12 inches from the microphone while speaking.

  • After you stop a recording, keep ScribbleVet open and the screen active until the upload completes.

  • Stay within the 3-hour per-session recording limit. ScribbleVet automatically stops recording at 3 hours. Press Record to start a new recording within the same appointment.

Frequently asked questions

How long should Scribbling… normally take?

Under 5 minutes, and usually 1–2 minutes. Anything longer needs troubleshooting.

What do I do if the Delete option is grayed out?

Try deleting the recording from the mobile app. If the note is still uploading, keep ScribbleVet open on the device that made the recording until the upload completes, and confirm that the device's internet connection is strong and stable.

Why is there an Untitled or Inaudible recording on my visit?

This usually happens when another app was using the microphone, the recording was very short, or no usable audio was captured. Delete the recording to allow the note to finish scribbling.

Will I lose my notes if I delete a stuck recording?

No. You only delete the audio file that is blocking the visit. Other recordings and the transcript already attached to the appointment stay intact.
