Available with ServerLife Premium.
Track work-related costs in ServerLife to understand how they affect your take-home earnings. Create categories for expenses such as childcare, meals, parking, gas, uniforms or supplies, then record the amounts you spend.
Only enter amounts that aren’t already accounted for in another field. For example, if you record a tip-out using Tip Out, don’t also record the same amount as an expense.
Create expense categories
Open More → Preferences.
Under Expense Categories, tap Configure Categories.
Tap Add Category.
Enter a Category name, such as Meals, Childcare or Parking.
Keep Active turned on so the category appears when adding shifts or paychecks.
If applicable, turn on Deductible to mark the category as potentially tax deductible.
Tap Save Category.
The Deductible setting labels the category for your records. ServerLife does not determine whether an expense qualifies for a tax deduction.
Add expenses to a shift
Add a new shift or open an existing shift to edit it.
Scroll to Expenses and tap it.
Enter the amount spent in each applicable category. Only enter expenses associated with that shift.
Tap Save to return to the shift.
Tap Save Shift or Update Shift.
You can enter amounts for multiple categories on the same shift.
Understand how expenses affect take-home earnings
When the option to deduct expenses from take-home is turned on, recorded expenses reduce your Take Home amount. For example, $150 in earnings with a $22.50 expense results in $127.50 in take-home earnings.
If you enter an expense before entering any earnings, Take Home may show a negative amount.
Stop using an expense category
Open More → Preferences → Configure Categories and select the category. Turn off Active and save your changes.
Inactive categories won’t appear when adding shifts or paychecks.
Track taxes and payroll deductions
ServerLife does not calculate taxes or other payroll deductions, but you can record them as expenses. For details, see Can ServerLife calculate or track my taxes?.
