Export DWT / NRWT file from Sharesies

  • Go to Dividends

  • Select Dividend reports

  • Open your published dividend

  • Click Download reports → Export IR DWT bulk upload (or NRWT)

Enter IRD contact details

You’ll be prompted to enter:

  • Primary contact name

  • Phone number

Then click Export as CSV

This downloads a file formatted specifically for Inland Revenue.

Upload to myIR

  • Log in to myIR

  • Go to:

    • Dividend withholding tax

    • Returns and transactions

  • Select the correct period

the period = the month of your distribution date
(e.g. distribution on 25 Sept → select period ending 30-Sep)

Submit via file upload

  1. Choose Upload file (not manual entry)

  2. Upload the CSV exported from Sharesies

Important

  • The exported CSV is pre-formatted for IRD

  • Do NOT open and re-save in Excel or Google Sheets

    • this will break the file formatting

  • If changes are needed:

    • Update data in Sharesies Private

    • Re-export the file

If you must edit manually, use a text editor only (e.g. TextEdit)

DWT vs NRWT

  • DWT (Dividend Withholding Tax) → NZ resident shareholders

  • NRWT (Non-Resident Withholding Tax) → overseas shareholders

Both can be exported and filed using the same process.
