How to use a Segment in Discount?

Learn how to target your most promising customers by using a customer segment in a new discount.

Written by Swapnil Sangal

This tutorial will show you how to offer a special discount just to people who’ve already shown they’re close to purchasing, so you can boost conversions without cutting into your margins.

To follow along with this tutorial, you'll need to have a segment made already. If you're not sure how to create a segment then you can go through our article on segments.

We'll be using our high intent segment for this tutorial.

On the tutorial:

Step 1: Go to the discounts page.

Step 2: Click on the create discounts button.

Step 3: Choose the discount on cart value option.

Step 4: Enter a name for the discount like “150 off”. & Step 5: Select the user’s code method, so customers use a code at checkout to get the discount.

Step 6: Set the discount amount to 150.

Step 7: Specify the cart amount condition, for example, 1500. This makes sure only orders worth 1500 or more qualify for the discount and protects your margins. Even when the customer is high intent it doesn't make sense to give discounts without knowing if your margins are okay.

Step 8: Under the eligible to section, click the customer segment option.

Step 9: Search for and select the high intent segment – this group includes customers who reached the payments page but didn’t finish paying.

Step 10: Click save. Review your settings, then publish the discount.

Focusing your discounts on high-intent segments helps you reach customers who are most likely to convert and just need an extra nudge/incentive, increasing your sales while keeping your offers targeted and effective.
