First-time buyers are your biggest opportunity — and your biggest risk. If someone placed their first order with you in the last 90 days and still hasn't come back, they're slipping away. This segment helps you find exactly those customers so you can re-engage them before they're gone for good.
How to Build This Segment
Step 1: Go to Segments from the left navigation menu and click New Segment.
Step 2: Give your segment a name — for example, "New customer retargeting". Dynamic segments update automatically as customers match or exit the criteria.
Step 3: Add the first condition: by clicking on Add condition:
Set it to Order completed → exactly → 1 → in the last 90 days.
This captures every customer who has placed exactly one order with you in the past three months.
Step 4: Click Add condition and set the second condition:
Set it to Order completed → exactly → 0 → in the last 30 days.
This filters down to only those who haven't ordered again in the last month — meaning they've gone quiet since their first purchase.
Step 5: Now to separate out first time customers as is the target in this example, you need to add another condition where the order completed was exactly 0 before 90 days. In our case we will put that as 4th March.
Step 6: Click Count Data to see how many customers currently match this segment.
Step 7: Click Save Segment.
What to Do Next
Once your segment is saved, you can put it to work immediately:
Run a second-order discount — offer an exclusive coupon (e.g., 10% off) targeted specifically at this segment to nudge them back. See How to use a Segment in a Discount.
Reward redemption nudge — if you're on Shopflo Rewards, remind them they have points waiting. A "you've earned rewards" message at the right time can bring first-timers back.
