This article explains the use of authentication methods, a specific way of adding security to the signing process. If you want to know more about verification methods (ways of adding proof to the signing process) check out this article for more information on the different methods.
It is possible to authenticate if the person that you have sent the transaction to is the right receiver, before they get access to the documents in a transaction.
You can check this by selecting one of our authentication options:
Authentication: DigiD
Authentication: Phone Number (SMS)
How to activate authentications in the portal?
Before you can add authentications to your transactions you have to enable this in the settings via Settings > Transaction settings > Default transaction options > Enable authentication
Please note that each user has to enable this in their own portal.
Now the option will be available whilst creating a new transaction.
Retrieving the signed document when authentication is used
Signers
When all signers have signed, the signer(s) receive an email to retrieve the document via the automated link.
Senders
The sender of a transaction cannot download the document separately from the portal or email when authentication has been used, but you can still download a .zip file containing the signed document and the transaction receipt via the “Download” button in the transaction details.
The authentication methods explained
Authentication: DigiD
With this method the sender of the transaction has to fill out the BSN number (Dutch social security number) of the signer before sending out the transaction.
The signer receives the transaction and logs in to their DigiD account and if the BSN number matches they are able to view the document and proceed with the signing.
If other verification methods have been added in the transaction, these will follow after viewing the document.
Authentication: Phone number (SMS)
With this method the sender of the transaction has to fill out mobile phone number of the signer before sending out the transaction.
The signer receives the transaction and clicks on 'send text message'. They will receive a code by text which they can fill in in the signing environment. If the code matches they are able to view the document and proceed with the signing.
If other verification methods have been added in the transaction, these will follow after viewing the document.
