Getting Started with Workforce

An introduction to Workforce — what it does, how to navigate the app, and how your account is set up automatically from Shift4.

Written by Emma

Workforce takes the complexity out of managing a shift-based team.

Build and publish schedules in minutes, stay on top of labor compliance automatically, and go from approved timecards straight to payroll — with timecard data flowing directly from Shift4 Dine.

Your team can view their shifts, submit availability, request time off, and message each other from the mobile app, while managers get a live view of who's on the floor at any time.

Navigating Workforce Management

The Workforce Management desktop application has five main sections, accessible from the top of the screen:

  • Scheduler: Create shifts and publish them to your employees

  • Attendance: Provides a live view of who is currently working or on break

  • Timecards: View and edit timecard data and export to payroll

  • Employees: View and edit employees and their profiles

  • Time off: View and approve time off requests

Setting up your account

Workforce Management is part of the Shift4 ecosystem, which means when you first sign in, a lot is already set up for you.

Your employees, jobs, position rates, and employee assignments are pulled in automatically from Shift4 Customer Hub — so you won't need to add them manually.

Your timecards from Shift4 Dine will also be waiting for you on the Timecards screen, ready to review.

Please note: Employees and jobs are managed in Shift4 Customer Hub, not in Workforce Management. Any changes to employee profiles or jobs must be made there and will sync across automatically.

Where to go next

Now that you're familiar with Workforce Management, here are the best places to get started depending on what's most important to your business right now:
