What are Water Sensors and how do I use them?

Water Sensors are devices that detect the presence of water and monitor temperature changes in critical areas of the member’s HVAC system. They are designed to alert you to issues such as:

  • Clogged drain lines that cause water to back up into the air handler drain pan

  • Water leaks in equipment such as the air handler or water heater

  • Temperature extremes that may be too hot or approaching freezing, both of which can cause system problems

By providing these early warnings, Water Sensors help protect your system from damage and prevent costly repairs.

Where Are They Installed?

The primary location for a Water Sensor is the air handler drain pan, where standing water is an early indicator of a clogged line.

  • Add-on options are also available for other locations, such as the water heater pan, to extend protection to multiple areas of the home.

How Do I Use Them?

Once installed, Water Sensors work automatically in the background. Here’s what you need to know:

  1. Monitor Alerts: If water is detected, you’ll receive an alert signaling a clogged drain line or leak.

  2. Check Temperature Readings: The sensor also tracks temperature. Alerts will notify you if conditions are trending too hot or near freezing.

  3. Respond Promptly: If an alert is triggered, take immediate action—either clear the drain line, inspect for leaks, or address the temperature issue to avoid damage.
