Average Temperature Shift notifications (formerly called High/Low Space Temperature alerts) notify members when their home's temperature changes significantly from their normal patterns. These notifications are sent when the temperature is 3°F or more above or below the member's 30-day average, which could indicate HVAC system issues, thermostat problems, or potential safety concerns.
Important for Service Teams
These Average Temperature Shift notifications are primarily informational and often result from normal circumstances like:
Homeowner adjusting thermostat settings
Seasonal temperature changes
Homeowner being away from home
Intentionally turning off HVAC system
Recommended approach:
Don't automatically roll a truck for every notification
Use as an early warning sign to start a conversation with your member
Look for patterns - repeated notifications may indicate a real issue
Contact the homeowner first to confirm whether they're experiencing a problem
The new Average Temperature Shift messaging helps homeowners self-diagnose many of these situations, reducing unnecessary service calls.
Why We Send These Notifications
Space temperature alerts serve as an early warning system to:
Prevent equipment damage - Extreme temperatures can indicate system failures that could lead to costly repairs.
Protect the home - Low temperatures can cause pipes to freeze in winter; high temperatures can affect medications, pets, and perishables.
Ensure member comfort - Alerts catch issues before members return to an uncomfortable home.
Create service opportunities - Temperature anomalies often indicate problems that require professional attention.
These alerts help you stay proactive about member needs and can generate service calls before small issues become major breakdowns if you are seeing unusual patterns.
