How to Onboard a Connect Customer

This article walks you through onboarding a homeowner onto a Connect plan (a plan with no hardware) in the SmartAC Pro app.

Before you start

Connect is an app-only onboarding, so no Hardware Kit is needed. Make sure you have the following ready:

  1. The SmartAC Pro app is downloaded on your phone.

  2. Your login. Sign in with your email, or with your company account if your company has SAML enabled.

Step 1: Check whether the homeowner already exists (optional)

  1. Tap Members in the bottom menu.

  2. Search for the homeowner by name or address.

  3. If they already have a profile, open it to review their details instead of creating a duplicate account.

Step 2: Enter the homeowner's details

  1. From the home screen, tap New Member.

  2. Enter the homeowner's first name, last name, phone number, and email, then tap Next.

  3. Enter the service address. This should be the address where the equipment is located. The address auto-populates as you type, and the city, state, and zip code fill in when you select it.

Step 3: Select Connect

  1. On the Select type of onboarding screen, choose Application Only. Choose Hardware Kit only if you are installing sensors.

  2. Select the homeowner's plan. Plan names and pricing vary depending on your company's offerings.

You'll land on the Review & Save screen. Each item in red under Required Home Details needs to be completed before you can finalize.

Step 4: Add the last service date

  1. Tap + next to Last Service Date.

  2. Select the date of the most recent service visit from the calendar.

Step 5: Add the HVAC unit

  1. Tap + next to HVAC Units.

  2. Select the system type: Split System, Packaged Unit, or Furnace Only. The workflow differs for each, so choose carefully.

  3. Select where the air handler or furnace is located (Attic, Basement, Closet, Garage, or add your own).

  4. Add the condenser nameplate. Tap Add Nameplate, take a photo, then tap Looks good! and Save. The photo should be clear, legible, and show the data plate from top to bottom. If the plate is missing or faded, check Manually Add Details instead.

  5. Tap Add Furnace and repeat for the furnace/air handler nameplate.

  6. Name the unit (for example, "Entire House" if one system serves the whole home), then tap Finish.

Step 6: Add the thermostat zone

  1. Tap + next to Thermostat Zones.

  2. Select the zone the thermostat controls (Upstairs, Downstairs, Entire House, East Side, West Side, or add your own).

  3. Select the HVAC unit that controls this zone.

  4. Select the thermostat type: Basic or Smart/Learning.

  5. Tap Finish.

Step 7: Add the air filter

  1. Tap + next to Filters.

  2. Select the thermostat zone associated with the filter.

  3. Select where the filter is located (Hallway, Master Bedroom, Kitchen, Living Room, At the equipment, or add your own).

  4. Select where the filter is in the room: Wall, Ceiling, or Floor.

  5. Select Single or Double grille.

  6. Select the filter type: Standard/Other, Electrostatic, or Zephyr.

  7. Enter the filter size, MERV rating, and when it was last replaced. If the size isn't listed, tap Enter Manual Sizes.

  8. Tap Finish.

Step 8: Add the number of stories

Use the + and - buttons next to Stories to enter the number of stories in the home.

Step 9: Finalize and help the homeowner download the app

  1. Once every required item is complete, tap Tap to Finalize.

  2. A QR code appears on screen. Have the homeowner scan it to download the SmartAC homeowner app and sign in.

Getting help during an onboarding

Never hesitate to contact Pro Support. Calls are answered in the order they are received, and there is no phone menu to go through.

  • Find the Pro Support number in the SmartAC Pro app under Account and under Help.

  • During onboarding, tap the three dots in the top-right corner of the app to chat with support or call support.
