How to Add a Modifier to a Menu Item or Menu Section

Learn how to add modifiers to specific menu items or to entire menu sections.

Updated over a week ago

Menu modifiers allow your customers to modify or personalize an item.

With modifiers, they can:

  • Choose from variations (e.g. soup - Clam Chowder, Mushroom Soup, etc.)

  • Add sides (e.g. Fries, Coleslaw, etc.)

  • Add or remove specific ingredients (e.g. no onions, add cheese)

  • Upgrade (e.g. if the customer selects regular fries, he'll be given an option to upgrade to large)

  • Make it a combo (e.g. if the customer selects a solo burger, he'll be given an option to make it a combo with fries and drinks)

You can add required or optional, paid or unpaid, and taxable or tax-exempt options that a customer can select to modify their item. If you haven't created modifiers yet, here is a tutorial on how to create modifiers.

Step 1 - Select a Menu

  1. Go to [Menus] dashboard and select a menu to add modifiers to.

  2. Click the 3-dot icon and select [Edit].

If you have not created any menus, click on the [Create New Menu] button or click here for a menu creation tutorial.

Step 2 - Select a Menu Item/Section and Add a Modifier

You can add modifiers either to individual menu items or to an entire section if they are applicable to all menu items of that section.

To add modifiers to a menu item:

  1. Click a menu item then click [Modifier Group].

  2. Select all modifiers that apply to the menu item. Select them by order of how you want them to be displayed on the menu item modal (published page).

  3. Click [OK].

To add modifiers to all items in an entire section:

  1. Click the section then click [Modifier Group].

  2. Select all modifiers that apply to the section. Select them by order of how you want them to be displayed on the menu item modal (published page).

  3. Click [OK].

Step 3 - Click [DONE] to Save the Changes.

Changes in menu settings are not saved automatically. For "each" menu item or section you change, click [DONE] to save settings.
