Hercules tripod system

Overview of the Hercules tripod system

Updated over a week ago

The Hercules tripod system is the largest tripod in the Spartan range. The design was initially developed to meet the requirements of a military user who needed a lightweight but robust tripod system capable of handling the loads and pressures delivered by military rifles up to a .50 calibre.

The project's success has led us to offer the Hercules to all users. The tripod is the ideal support system for users looking for a strong, stable, and versatile product for long-range shooting, competition shooting, and hunting from fixed locations.

The aluminium components, including the body of the Hercules, are CNC machined from 7000 series aluminium to create a durable chassis and strong mounting point for a rifle and connecting points for the removable leg units.

The head unit is modular, features a removable central module, and can accept the following modules:

  • DiskLok spigot.

  • 12mm Spartan Magna-Switch spigot.

  • Pan Head Converter.

The module can be quickly exchanged for one of the alternative modules by simply loosening the lever, pulling the module release kob outwards, and changing the modules.

The head unit also features a pair of cord slings that can hang ballast if required without interfering with the articulation of the ball joint.

This modular design's advantage is that it allows the tripod to be rapidly adapted from use with a rifle to use with a camera or optic, simply by exchanging one module for another.

  • DiskLok Module Option

The Disklok spigot module is a Spartan design featuring a 16mm stainless steel spigot. This forms the connection point for the spigot, which mechanically locks onto the adapter. (It is not compatible with the 12mm Spartan Magna-Switch adapters.)

The DiskLok system is designed to work with both the Picatinny and M-Lok Disklok adapters and the HD Disklok Arca-Swiss and Picatinny adapters.

  • 12mm Spartan Magna-Switch module.

The 12mm Spartan Magna-Switch module uses the magnetic attachment system and is designed to work with the full range of Spartan Classic adapters (including the Optics adapters). The Magna-Switch design is ideal for hunting, where the speed of mounting and demounting the rifle is advantageous with increased stability.

  • Pan Head Converter

The Pan Head Converter Module is a flat-based module with a 3/8"-16 male screw projecting from its top face.

The 3/8" screw is an optic and camera industry standard which can be used to mount the most commercially available optical and camera ball heads.

It uses 3 x Four-section telescopic carbon fibre legs with foam handles and rubber boats covering sharp tips.

All of the legs can be threaded into the body of the tripod. This capability provides the additional advantages:

  • Three legs can be separated from the body for convenient travel carriage, transport and storage.

  • Two legs can be removed so the Hercules can be adapted as a bipod system for positional shooting, which can be helpful where the terrain or environment isn't well suited to positioning a tripod. It can also offer solutions where high angles or limited space make the bipod easier to work with. In some cases (with practice), the third leg can also be successfully employed as a support to help stabilise the rifle's rear.

  • One or two legs can be removed and employed as trekking poles (these can additionally be accessorised with a trekking pole handle and loop, ski pole, and long foot spike.)

The legs can all be easily set to one of four different leg pitch angles, enabling the tripod to be used for shooting positions such as standing, kneeling, seated, and prone.

The Hercules's removable leg design allows it to be adapted from a full-sized tripod into a small tripod suitable for use on the ground or from a bench.

All that is required is adding 3 x Heavy Duty Tac Legs to the head unit. These legs are incrementally adjustable by a single press of the release lever on each leg.

Whilst not conventionally considered a shooting platform, this 'Mini Hercules' design offers a superb mount that can provide advantages over a bipod or full-sized tripod, especially on uneven terrain.

Using the Pan-Head Converter module to mount optical or cammers or the Spartan Heavy Duty Optics Adapter enables the use of the equipment in a very stable, compact package.

Additionally, the Hercules is suitable for use with the Spartan C.P. Brace. The C.P. Brace is designed to increase further stability for long-range shooting by mounting the rifle on the brace between two legs and using the third leg to stabilise the butt of the rifle.

The brace is designed to be mounted at the bottom of the upper leg section beneath the foam handle.
