What Can I Edit in My Contest? (And What's Locked)

What commissioners can and cannot edit in a Splash Sports contest after it's been created — and how to cancel and start over if needed.

Updated yesterday

Here's exactly what you can and can't change in your contest settings — and what to do if you need a fresh start.

What You Can Edit

Go to Commissioner tab → Active → Manage → Settings to edit:

  • Contest name and description

  • Banner image

  • Maximum entries

  • Scoring rules

  • Push/notification settings

  • Early games inclusion

  • Specific settings that depend on whether entries have been submitted and whether the contest has started

Future pick deadlines can also be modified after the current slate ends.

What You Cannot Edit

Once a contest is created, the following are locked:

  • Sport or format — cannot change the sport or contest type

  • Prize payout structure — set at creation and cannot be changed

  • Pick deadlines — cannot be changed after the contest starts; only future deadlines can be adjusted after the current slate ends

  • Entries per player — locked once the contest begins to ensure fairness

  • Total lives and team reuse settings — locked if players have already made picks for multiple weeks. Deleting existing picks allows these settings to be updated.

How to Cancel and Start Over

If no one has entered yet:

  1. Go to your contest in the Commissioner tab

  2. Tap the three dots (…) next to "Invite"

  3. Select Cancel Contest

If entries have already been submitted:

  1. Ask entrants to withdraw their entries — they can go to My Contests → Active, select the contest, tap the three dots (…) menu, and choose Withdraw. Entry fees are automatically refunded to their Splash wallet.

  2. Once all entries are withdrawn, cancel the contest using the steps above

  3. Create a new contest with the correct settings

If locked settings like total lives or team reuse need to change, ask players to delete their existing picks first — then the settings can be updated in the contest manager.

Common Questions

Can I change the payout structure after entries are in? No — payout structure is locked at creation. If this needs to change, you'll need to cancel the contest (with all entrants withdrawing first) and create a new one.

Can I add more players after the contest starts? No — once the pick deadline passes, new entries cannot be added. See Can Splash Add Entries After the Deadline?

Can I turn on chat for my contest? Yes — chat is available via the Commissioner tab in the mobile app. It is not currently supported on web.
