NHL Player Survivor — Elimination Rules Explained

How elimination works in NHL Player Survivor — what causes elimination, shootout rules, split prizes, and Entry Lives.

Updated yesterday

Understanding the elimination rules in NHL Player Survivor will help you make smarter picks and avoid surprises.

How Elimination Works

Your entry is eliminated when your primary player fails to record a point (goal or assist) in their game. This includes:

  • Your primary player played but recorded 0 points

  • You missed the pick deadline and no pick was submitted

Elimination is immediate and final — once your entry is eliminated, it cannot be revived (unless the commissioner has enabled Entry Lives or manual revivals).

When Your Alternate Steps In

Your alternate player is only activated if your primary player's game is postponed, cancelled, or your primary player doesn't dress. If your alternate also doesn't have a valid game, the slate is voided for your entry and you advance automatically.

Your alternate does not step in if your primary simply had a scoreless game — that's an elimination.

Shootout Goals — Do They Count?

No. Shootout goals and assists do not count toward the point threshold. Your player must record a point in regulation or overtime.

What If Everyone Is Eliminated in the Same Slate?

If all remaining entries are eliminated in the same slate, the prize is split equally among those last-surviving entries. No single winner is declared in this scenario — Splash handles the split automatically.

What If Multiple Entries Survive to the End?

If the contest runs through all available slates with multiple entries still alive, those entries split the prize equally. Splash calculates and distributes this automatically.

Entry Lives (If Enabled)

Some NHL Player Survivor contests include Entry Lives — a setting that gives each entry one or more chances to survive a loss before being fully eliminated. If a contest has 2 lives, your entry can absorb one scoreless slate before being eliminated on the second. Entry Lives are configured by the commissioner during contest creation.
