What Happens If an NHL Game Is Postponed or a Player Is Scratched?

What happens to your NHL Player Survivor entry when a game is postponed, cancelled, or a player is scratched — and when your alternate is used.

Updated yesterday

NHL games are occasionally postponed or cancelled due to weather, ice issues, health protocols, or other circumstances. Here's how Splash Sports handles these situations in NHL Player Survivor.

Your Primary Player's Game Is Postponed or Cancelled

If your primary player's game is postponed or cancelled before it starts, your alternate player is activated automatically. If your alternate's game is valid and they record a point, your entry advances. If your alternate also doesn't score, your entry is eliminated.

If both your primary and alternate's games are cancelled, the slate is voided for your entry and you advance automatically to the next slate without needing a point.

Game Cancelled After It Starts

If a game is cancelled or suspended after it has already started, the outcome depends on how much of the game was played and how Splash determines a valid result. In most cases, if a game is abandoned mid-play, Splash will treat it as a no-game and your alternate may be activated. Official results will be communicated via the contest and support if there is any ambiguity.

Your Primary Player Is Scratched (Doesn't Dress)

If your primary player is a late scratch and doesn't dress for the game, your alternate is activated. The alternate must then record a point to advance your entry. If your alternate also doesn't score, your entry is eliminated.

💡 Always check lineup news before the pick deadline — if a player is listed as questionable or day-to-day, consider choosing a safer primary pick.

Alternate Is NOT a Substitute for a Scoreless Game

Your alternate is not activated because your primary player simply had a bad game with no points. The alternate only steps in when the primary's game itself doesn't count (postponement, cancellation, or player scratch). A scoreless game results in elimination — no exceptions.
