Advanced and minutes-based stats: PIE, POSS, ORtg, DRtg, +/- and more

PIE, POSS, ORtg, DRtg and +/-, and which of them need games with minutes enabled.

📍 Where to find it: Open a game → Game Summary → Stats tab (Advanced toggle); or player/team page

🔒 Who can do this: requires player minutes enabled (for minutes-based stats).

These stats appear under the Advanced box score toggle. PIE shows for any processed game, but several of the others need player minutes enabled on the game. Until then they stay empty.

PIE

  • PIE, Player Impact Estimate, an estimate of a player's share of everything that happened in a game (scoring, rebounds, assists, steals, and so on). A higher PIE means the player contributed a bigger slice of the game's total production. Higher is better.

Minutes-based stats (may be empty)

The stats below only appear for games set up with player minutes enabled. There is no way to enter minutes by hand, so if your games do not have them these stay blank. That is expected, not a bug.

  • POSS, Possessions, the number of possessions involved.

  • AST%, Assist Percentage, the share of teammates' made baskets a player assisted while on the floor.

  • ORtg, Offensive Rating, a measure of points produced relative to possessions. Higher is better.

  • DRtg, Defensive Rating, a measure of points allowed relative to possessions. Lower is better.

  • +/-, Plus-Minus, how the team's score changed while the player was on the floor. Higher is better.

  • Per 40 Minutes: a player's stats scaled to a full 40 minutes of play, so you can compare players who logged different amounts of time.

Why don't I see these?

  • PIE or efficiency stats missing? Switch the box score to Advanced: see Reading your stats.

  • POSS, AST%, ORtg, DRtg, +/- or Per 40 empty? Your program hasn't enabled player minutes, which these stats are built from. A program admin controls this; without minutes, the columns stay blank.
