Each time you upload an audio or video file and it finishes transcribing, the system deducts credits based on the length of the file (for example, a 30-minute video uses 30 minutes of credits). Usage is counted per transcription task, based on the total length of the file; adding multiple translation languages to the same task does not multiply the deduction. You can keep uploading files for transcription until your credits are used up.
Credits are a "total for the cycle", not a "per-file limit"
The minutes listed for a plan (for example, 720 minutes per year on Lite) are the total amount you can use across the entire subscription cycle, drawn down cumulatively by all the files you upload — not a limit per file or per transcription.
For example, if a plan provides 720 minutes per year in total, you can transcribe one 720-minute file, or transcribe files adding up to 720 minutes across multiple tasks (say, 24 files of 30 minutes each) — either way, the cycle's full credits are used up.
How credits differ between monthly and annual plans
For the same plan, paying monthly or annually changes how credits are issued — this is the most commonly misunderstood point:
Monthly plans: your quota is issued month by month, and a fresh quota is issued on each subscription renewal date. Monthly credits per plan: Lite 60 minutes per month, Pro 180 minutes per month, Max 600 minutes per month (480 base minutes, plus a limited-time free +120 minutes).
Annual plans: when your subscription starts, the credits for the entire year are issued upfront. You can use them at any time within the 1-year period, and they reset on each annual renewal date. Annual credits per plan: Lite 720 minutes per year, Pro 2,160 minutes per year, Max 7,200 minutes per year (5,760 base minutes, plus a limited-time free +1,440 minutes).
In other words, the minutes listed for an annual plan (for example, the "720 minutes" on annual Lite) are the total credits for the whole year — you can spend them at once on longer files or spread them across many transcriptions. They are not a "per video" or "per month" limit.
About the extra minutes on the Max plan: the +120 minutes per month and +1,440 minutes per year are a limited-time free bonus, added automatically on top of the plan's base credits. This is a limited-time offer and may be adjusted in the future.
Prices and credits for each plan
Paid plans are priced in both Hong Kong dollars (HKD) and US dollars (USD). Below are the HKD prices and annual credits for each plan when billed annually:
Lite: HK$68/month (billed annually), 720 minutes per year.
Pro: HK$138/month (billed annually), 2,160 minutes per year.
Max: HK$398/month (billed annually), 7,200 minutes per year.
If you choose monthly billing, credits are issued as a monthly quota (Lite 60 / Pro 180 / Max 600 minutes). Users outside Hong Kong are billed in USD, and the exact amount is shown in the app. If you need more credits or organizational billing arrangements, contact us at hello@subanana.com to learn about custom Enterprise pricing.
Each file also has its own length and size limits
Separate from your total credits, each uploaded file has its own limits: on all plans each file can be up to 3 hours long; on paid plans each file can be up to 15GB, and on the Free plan up to 3GB. Note that these are length/size limits for a single file — a different concept from the "total for the cycle" described above.
Also, on the Free plan each file only generates results for the first 15 minutes (subtitles / transcript / AI meeting summary); the rest is not processed. After upgrading to a paid plan, you can use "Continue generating" in the editor to process the remainder of the same file — no need to re-upload.
I want to transcribe a long video — can I?
Since credits are deducted based on a file's total length, you just need to make sure your plan's available credits for the current cycle cover the video's length. For example, a 2-hour (120-minute) video needs 120 minutes of credits: annual Lite (720 minutes per year) is enough to handle it. If your available credits for the cycle aren't enough, you can purchase extra credits or choose a plan with more. The single-file limit is 3 hours on all plans, and each file can be up to 15GB on paid plans.
When credits refresh and reset
Upload credits refresh when your subscription auto-renews or when you complete a new subscription. When the same plan auto-renews, a complete new quota is issued for each subscription cycle: monthly plans reset on the monthly renewal date, and annual plans reset on the annual renewal date. Please note that when the same plan auto-renews, unused credits from the current cycle do not carry over to the next cycle.
However, if you upgrade your plan mid-cycle (or switch from monthly to annual billing), the unused minutes from your original plan are automatically transferred and merged into the new plan — they are not wiped. Upgrades take effect immediately: unused credits from the original plan carry over to the new plan, and you get the new plan's advanced features. Just subscribe to the new plan directly, and the system completes the merge automatically.
If you run out of credits or don't have enough
If you use up all your credits before your subscription renews, you can upgrade to a higher plan (usually better value if you regularly need more credits), or purchase extra minutes as needed. Purchased extra credits are a one-time top-up with no cycle expiry — they are kept for your future transcriptions. The price of extra credits depends on your plan, and the exact amount is shown in the app at the time of purchase — you only pay after you confirm. The amount shown on the purchase page is the one that applies.
Checking your usage
Go to "Settings" → "Subscription" → "Usage" (path: /settings/subscription/usage). On the "Usage" page you can see your remaining transcription credits, your credit limit, and the reset date; the Plans page also shows your remaining minutes, the plan's total minutes, and the renewal date. To view billing and payment records, click your avatar at the top of the page → "Billing" (path: /settings/subscription/billing).
