Flexible spending — Customers use credits on any product, any time

Store credits work automatically with memberships. Here's how to enable them.
Step 1: Go to Your Membership Settings
Go to Subscribfy → Memberships → select your membership → VIP Settings.
Step 2: Enable Store Credit Perk
Check the Store Credit checkbox under Perks.
When enabled, customers receive store credit equal to their membership price after every successful recharge.
Step 3: Choose Redemption Method
Select how customers will spend their credits:
Order Discount Function | Recommended — applies credit automatically at checkout |
Gift Card | Converts credit to a Shopify gift card |
Coupon Code | Deprecated — not recommended for new setups |
Step 4: Save Your Settings
Click Save at the bottom of the page.
Tip: Use "Order Discount Function" for the best customer experience — credits apply automatically at checkout without extra steps.
How Store Credits Work
Earning Credits
Customers earn store credits in these ways:
Membership Recharges | Credit equal to membership price after each successful billing |
Admin Adjustment | Manually added by you or your team |
Churn Offers | Credit given as an incentive to stay |
Imports | Bulk import credits from a spreadsheet |
Spending Credits
Customer shops on your store and adds items to cart
At checkout, their store credit balance is shown
Credit is automatically applied to reduce the order total
Any remaining balance stays for future purchases
Store Credit Adjustment
You can add or subtract from the default credit amount. For example:
Membership price: $30/month
Adjustment: +$5
Customer receives: $35 in store credit
This lets you offer extra value without changing the membership price.
What Your Customers See
Here's the experience from your customer's perspective:
After payment — They see credit added to their account
In Customer Portal — They see their current balance and history
At checkout — Their credit is applied automatically (or they enter a code)
After purchase — Remaining credit stays for next time
Settings Explained
Store Credit Options
Go to Settings → Membership Settings → scroll to Store Credit Options
Store Credit Expiration | Credits expire after X months if not used |
Store Credit Reconciliation | Unused credits convert to a gift card after X months |
Note: You can only enable one — either expiration OR reconciliation, not both.
Credit Restoration Settings
Control what happens when orders are canceled or refunded:
Canceled Orders | Restore credits when an order is canceled (payment was authorized but not captured) |
Full Refund Orders | Restore credits when an order is fully refunded |
How it works: When you cancel or refund an order in Shopify, Subscribfy automatically detects it and restores the customer's credits if the setting is enabled. The order gets tagged so you can easily see which orders had credits restored.
Note: Credits are only restored if they were originally spent on that specific order. Partial refunds do not trigger restoration — only full refunds.
Credit Forfeit Rules
Credits can be forfeited (removed) in certain situations:
Customer Cancel | When customer cancels their membership |
Support Cancel | When support cancels the membership |
Chargeback | When customer disputes a charge |
Payment Fail | After multiple failed payment attempts |
Customization
