To enhance the accuracy of your accounting, a new setting is now available in your Tips configuration. This feature allows you to prevent tip collection on any transaction that is not linked to a bill from your POS system, eliminating reconciliation errors.
The Problem We're Solving
We understand that for venues that send tip data back to their POS for accounting, unassigned tips can be a significant challenge.
When a waiter processes a payment without a linked bill (for example, by using the "skip table" function or if the POS connection fails), the tip cannot be correctly assigned to an official record. This can create discrepancies that require time-consuming manual reconciliation in Excel and can lead to complicated clawbacks.
How the New Setting Works
To solve this, we’ve introduced a new option in your Tips Settings.
When this setting is enabled, the sunday application will first check if a bill has been successfully retrieved from the POS. If no bill is found, the screen that prompts the customer for a tip will be skipped entirely.
This ensures that 100% of the tips collected through sunday are linked to an official bill in your POS system, putting an end to reconciliation issues caused by unassigned tips.
How to Enable This Feature
You can activate this setting directly from your sunday dashboard:
Navigate to Settings > Tips.
Find the toggle switch labeled:
Do not collect tips without a bill
Switch the toggle to the ON position.
Remember to sync your devices for the change to take effect on your PDQs.
Note : On your dashboard, in your Handheld page, if the message Update Needed appears, it means you need to update your PDQ.
Important: Who Should Use This Feature?
This feature is OFF by default as it is designed for a specific workflow.
You should ONLY enable this setting if your venue:
Sends tip data back to your POS/till for accounting purposes.
AND experiences reconciliation issues with unassigned tips from payments made without a linked bill.
If your venue does not send tip data to the POS, this feature will have no impact and is not necessary to enable.
