With merge fields, you can send one message to the entire class while also personalizing it for each student and family.

What is a merge field?

A merge field is a feature that allows users to add specific information when writing a post. In the TalkingPoints message templates, there are words and phrases in brackets that personalize the message for each family.

The '[studentFirstName]' in the photo above automatically generates the student's first name for each family. While this process eliminates the hassle of composing the same message to individual families, it also helps them feel like you are reaching out to them directly.


Here is a list of merge fields you can type into a TalkingPoints message:

Fields are case-sensitive. In order for the merge fields to work, type the characters as they are in the table below. Feel free to copy and paste the fields from this article!

fills in your full name

[teacherFirstName]

fills in your first name

[teacherLastName]

fills in your last name

[teacherSignature] or [teacherDisplayName]

fills in your TalkingPoints signature

[school]

fills in your school's name

[studentFirstName]

fills in a student's first name

[parentFullName]

fills in a family contact's full name

[parentLanguage]

fills in a family contact's language name
