TalkingPoints Shared Messaging for Families Explained

Learn how families can participate in a group message with their teacher and another family member!

Updated over a month ago

Families can turn on 'Shared Messaging' to participate in group messages with their teacher regarding a particular student. When shared messaging is turned on, the teacher's messages deliver to all participating family contacts.

Please note:

  1. Shared messaging is exclusive to the TalkingPoints for Families app. Teachers do not control who opts in.

  2. Messages to and from the teacher are visible to the other participating family contacts.

  3. While shared messaging is turned on, the teacher cannot send a message to only one family contact through TalkingPoints.

  4. Families can turn off shared messaging at any time.

How it Works

Step 1: Click 'New Message.'

Step 2: Select a recipient. A purple icon appears next to the student's name whose guardians are opted into shared messaging.

If there is no purple icon, that means that that family member is not participating and will receive messages individually.

Step 3: All participating family members will see the teacher's messages. Teachers cannot send individual messages as long as families opt into shared messaging.

Composing a Message from the Conversation View:

Under 'All Contacts,' teachers can also indicate who is participating in shared messaging by the purple icon beside their names.
