Tips to Get the Most Out of Check-Ins
✅ Check in with families each month to keep communication open
📅 Use the seasonal tabs to find ideas for how to connect throughout the year
💬 Personalize messages with a student’s name, recent win, or family note
What Are Family Check-Ins?
Family Check-Ins help you start meaningful conversations with families—fast. With just a few clicks, you can explore seasonal engagement ideas and instantly generate a ready-to-send message.
Even better? You can edit and personalize the message to make it feel just right for your class or student.
Why Use Family Check-Ins?
We know your time is limited. Family Check-Ins make it easier to:
Stay in touch with families throughout the year
Send thoughtful, timely messages without starting from scratch
Build stronger relationships with families in less time
✨ How It Works
Step 1: Find Family Check-Ins
Go to your TalkingPoints Web homepage
Look for the purple box on the right labeled Family Check-Ins
Click Explore to open the full page
📌 Note: This feature is only available on the Web platform.
Step 2: Pick a Seasonal Theme
You’ll see four tabs, each filled with message ideas for that time of year.
TalkingPoints will open the current tab automatically based on the date—but you can always click through the others!
Step 3: Try a Message Prompt
Each tab has 6 ideas for family messages. When you find one you like:
Click Try it
TalkingPoints will use AI to generate a message for you
Choose what you want to do next:
Retry → Creates a new version of the message
Use message → Opens the message in the compose window, ready to send or edit
Personalize → Lets you edit the message goal and add specific details you'd like the message to include
✏️ Note: Changes to the message goal only apply to the message you’re editing. Any edits made to the message will not update the goal on the Family Check-Ins page.
🔁 Can I Save My Own Version?
You can’t save edits directly in the Check-Ins feature, but you can:
Save any message you like as a template
Use that template again later from the compose screen
