Understanding Status, Availability, and Location Sharing

how to manage your driver status and create jobs

Updated over a month ago

In this article we explain what it means to set your status and availability and what this means in your YourDriverApp network.

Your status and availability settings help dispatchers and auto-dispatch services in your network know when you're ready to accept jobs. Keeping this information accurate ensures smooth operations and effective job distribution.

Location Sharing

Your location is only shared with network members who have also added you as a driver. Location sharing starts when you begin a shift and stops immediately when you end it—the app goes offline and no longer transmits your location.

Starting and Ending Shift

To start a shift, tap the status button at the top of the screen and select Start shift and go online. If you have multiple vehicles in your profile, select the correct one before going online.

Status Options and When to Use Them

Setting the correct status is critical for dispatchers and passengers to track job progress. Here are the available statuses:

  • Available – You're ready to accept new jobs

  • Driving to pickup – En route to the pickup location

  • Arrived at pickup – Waiting for the customer at pickup

  • Passenger on board – Traveling to the drop-off address

  • Break – Temporarily unavailable but returning soon

  • Private trip – On a personal trip

  • Offline – Not available for jobs (important: use this instead of just closing the app to avoid appearing available)

When selecting job-related statuses (driving to pickup, passenger on board, arrived at pickup), you may be prompted to specify whether the job is:

  • A scheduled job (accepted from the app earlier)

  • An unplanned job (not booked through the app)

This distinction helps dispatchers and passengers know if scheduled jobs are being fulfilled.

Note: Dispatchers can see reports of drivers who frequently decline jobs. Set your status to something other than "Available" when you're not actively seeking jobs.

Creating and Assigning Jobs

End your shift before closing YourDriverApp

In this article we briefly explain why you should never swipe away/close the app while you are on a shift.

When you swipe away or hard-close the app while you are still on a shift, you will get this notification that informs you that you should first end your shift before closing the app. It is important to understand that this warning is only about shutting down the app on your phone entirely, it is perfectly fine to use the app in the background while still in a shift.

Shutting down YourDriverApp while still on a shift has several negative outcomes:

  • You disconnect while you still have an active shift.

  • The system can no longer determine whether you are still available.

  • You still seem available to colleagues when that is not the case.

  • You can't receive rides while you might still think you are online.

  • Misusing the app can negatively influence your driver score and can lead to missed ride offers.

So always end your shift before swiping away or closing YourDriverApp.
