The student portal

A walkthrough of what students see and can do in the Teach 'n Go portal — from the dashboard to payments, assignments and lesson management.

Written by Abdullah Al-Hussein

The student portal is a separate application from the main Teach 'n Go interface. When a student logs in, they are taken straight to their own view — they never see the admin side.

Your school may use different names for students, teachers and classes. Some features described below can be turned on or off by your admin — if something is missing, that is likely why.

Giving a student portal access

  1. Open the student's profile.

  2. Click More ▾ → Invite to portal.

  3. The student receives an invitation email with a login code to register their account.

What's in the sidebar

  • Dashboard

  • My profile

  • Calendar

  • Classes

  • Announcements

  • Notes (with an unread badge)

  • Files (with an unread badge)

  • Payments (hidden if your admin has turned off student payment visibility)

  • Book lessons (only if the booking page is enabled for your school)

Dashboard

The dashboard shows a greeting, then a Highlights strip with the student's attendance percentage for the term, gold stars and red flags. Below that: upcoming lessons (with a Join link for online classes), past lessons, assignments due (split into due today / tomorrow / overdue), documents awaiting signature, form requests, and unread announcements.

Quick-action buttons appear only when the student is eligible — for example, Reschedule or Cancel only appear on applicable upcoming lessons.

Calendar

Month, week, day and list views in the student's own timezone. Clicking a lesson opens a card showing the teacher, room, online meeting link, attendance status, lesson notes, attachments and assignments. Students can subscribe to an iCal feed or sync to Google Calendar from their account settings.

Classes

Filterable by active, ended or scheduled. Each class shows lessons, attendance, grades, assignments, lesson notes, gold stars and red flags. Grades and assignments can each be hidden by a school setting.

Assignments

Students can read the brief and due date, upload a submission, unsubmit a file, and view the teacher's grade and feedback once it has been entered.

Notes

Profile notes, personal lesson notes and shared notes from related contacts. Students can reply to a note, and the staff member who wrote it is notified.

Files

A searchable list of every file shared with the student — personal attachments, lesson attachments and class attachments. Students can download files; the only upload route is through an assignment submission.

Payments

Shows fees due, upcoming fees, invoices, receipts, tickets, credit balance, and summary totals (outstanding, paid this year, next due). Students can pay online via Stripe, PayPal or a custom payment method. If your school allows it, partial payments are available — a preview screen shows exactly what a payment will settle before it's confirmed.

Managing lessons

Depending on what your admin has enabled, students may be able to:

  • Cancel a lesson — returns the lesson credit for use later

  • Reschedule a lesson — moves a one-on-one lesson to another of the teacher's available times (no ticket is used)

  • Book a substitute lesson — swap into a different lesson slot

  • Mark as excused — record that an absence was excused

Each of these is gated by school settings — a reschedule cutoff, a mark-as-excused cutoff, per-student monthly allowances, and an "allow cancel" switch. Ask your admin if a button you expect is missing.

Documents to sign

If your admin has sent a document for signature, students can open it from their dashboard or the Documents section, fill in any fields, draw their signature, and submit.
