Qur'an and Qa'idah homework is a madrasah-specific way of setting assignments. Instead of typing the task into the title, you pick the surah and ayah range from a list, and you record a result against each student once they have recited. It is part of the normal assignments feature, not a separate section.
This option is switched on per school. If you do not see Homework type when you add an assignment, contact us and we will turn it on for your school.
Your school may use different names for students, teachers and classes. If you don't see the menu items below, ask your admin to check your permissions.
Setting Qur'an homework
Open the class and go to the Assignments tab.
Click Add.
In Students, choose who the homework is for. Leave it empty to set it for the whole class.
Set Homework type to Qur'an.
Choose the Mode, then the surah and ayah for From and To.
Tick Full surah if the homework is a whole surah. You then pick the surah once and the ayahs are filled in for you.
Leave Title empty and it is written for you from the range, for example Hifdh: Fussilat 1-38.
Use Instructions for anything the student should focus on, such as particular letters or rules.
Click Save.
Qur'an modes
Hifdh — new memorisation
Revision — going back over what the student has already memorised
Tilawah — recitation
The mode appears in the generated title and on the homework itself, so you can tell at a glance what kind of work it was.
Setting Qa'idah homework
Set Homework type to Qa'idah and type the task, for example page 12, lesson 3. Everything else works the same way as Qur'an homework.
Setting homework for one student
Students in the same class are often at different places in the Qur'an, so homework does not have to go to everyone. There are three ways to set it for one student or a few.
From the class — pick the students in the Students field when you add the assignment
From the register — open the lesson, click the three dots next to a student's name and choose Set assignment
From the student — open the student, go to the Assignments tab and click Set homework
Homework set for particular students is only visible to those students and their parents. The rest of the class never sees it.
Recording the result
Open the homework and click Mark next to a student. Choose a result, add feedback if you want to, and save.
Passed — recited correctly
Failed — not recited to standard
Incomplete — not read yet
Redo — to be done again
You do not need to mark the student as submitted first. Marking records the result and the date together, which is what you want when the student recites in class rather than handing anything in.
The result shows as a coloured label on the homework and on the student's Assignments tab, so you can look back over a student's record and see how often they are passing.
Changing homework after you have set it
Open the homework and click Edit. This is useful when a student memorises more than you set: widen the range, save, and the title updates itself. A title you typed yourself is left alone.
What parents and students see
In the portal, parents and students see the homework, the surah and ayah range, the result once you have marked it, and any feedback you wrote.
A student uploading work again clears the result. The work has changed, so the previous mark no longer describes what is on file and you will need to mark it again.
