The parent and related-contact portal

How parents and related contacts access the portal, switch between linked children, and manage lessons, payments and communications.

Written by Abdullah Al-Hussein

Parents and related contacts use the same portal application as students. The key difference is the student switcher — a dropdown in the header that lets them choose which linked child they are viewing. Everything in the portal then shows data for that child.

Your school may use different names for students and related contacts. Some features can be turned on or off by your admin.

Giving a parent portal access

  1. Open the related contact's profile.

  2. Enable the portal access toggle.

  3. Click Invite to portal. The contact receives an invitation email with a login code.

If a related contact is not linked to any student, they will log in and see nothing. If a parent reports an empty portal, check that they are linked to at least one student.

Switching between children

The student switcher appears in the portal header. Selecting a different child switches the entire portal to show that child's data — classes, attendance, payments, notes and files. The selection persists across pages.

What parents can see and do

Everything available in the student portal is available to the linked parent, scoped to the selected child. This includes:

  • Dashboard with attendance highlights, upcoming lessons and assignments

  • Calendar in their own timezone

  • Classes, grades and assignments

  • Notes (the sidebar reads the child's name rather than "My profile")

  • Files shared with the child

  • Payments — paying fees, viewing invoices and receipts, credit balance

  • Lesson management — cancel, reschedule, substitute, mark as excused (each gated by school settings)

  • Documents to sign

See The student portal for a full description of each section.

Notes addressed to the parent

The Notes section gains a related-contact notes area — notes written to the parent specifically, rather than to the child. Parents can reply, and the staff author is notified.

Payments

Parents pay for the selected child. Invoices, receipts, credit balance and online checkout all work the same way as in the student portal.
