Gradebooks in Teach 'n Go allow teachers to record, calculate, and share student grades seamlessly. It's designed to save time, ensure accuracy, and keep students and parents informed about their academic progress.
What is the Gradebook?
The Gradebook is a built-in tool in Teach 'n Go that helps teachers and schools track student performance in an organised, digital format. It replaces paper-based grading with a central, accessible system for recording scores, providing feedback, and generating progress reports.
With the Gradebook, teachers can:
Record grades for assignments, tests, projects, and exams.
Apply different grading scales (letters, percentages, points, or custom rubrics).
Calculate averages automatically.
Provide comments and feedback alongside grades.
Share results with students and parents instantly through the student/parent portal.
Key Features
Customisable grading schemes – Set up the grading format that matches your school's system (e.g., A–F, 1–10, %).
Weighted categories – Assign weights to different categories like homework, classwork, and exams.
Real-time calculations – Automatic total and average score calculations, reducing manual work.
Progress tracking – Monitor how students are performing across a semester, course, or year.
Transparency for parents & students – Parents and students can view grades anytime through their portal.
How to Use the Gradebook
Accessing the Gradebook
Navigate to the class you want to manage.
Click on the Gradebook tab.
Adding grades to a Gradebook
Click on the Add and Edit Gradebook button at the top-right of the tab.
A pop-up will appear where you can add individual gradebooks.
Each grade can be entered as a percentage, text, or dropdown value.
Add more gradebooks
You can create multiple gradebooks for different marking periods (e.g., terms, semesters, or years).
This makes it easier to track performance across different timeframes.
Filling in grades:
Once your gradebooks are set up, you can begin entering grades for each student.
Each gradebook can store one overall grade per student.
Notes can also be added for each gradebook, if needed.
Switching gradebooks
At the top-left of the Gradebook tab, you'll see all your gradebooks listed as tabs. In the above image, the gradebooks are for term 1 and term 2.
Click on the tabs to quickly switch between different gradebooks (e.g., terms, semesters, or years).
Each gradebook can have its own set of grades and notes.
Exporting Grades
Click the Export button to download grades in Excel format.
Perfect for school records, reports, or offline backups.
Copying a gradebook to another class
You can copy a gradebook's grade items — their names, types, weights and order — from one class to another, and bring each student's grades across with them. Duplicating a class does not carry its gradebook over, so copy it afterwards using the steps below.
Open the destination class and go to the Gradebook tab.
Click Add and edit gradebooks.
Click Copy grades from another class at the top-right of the pop-up.
Select the source class, then the gradebook you want to copy from.
If the destination class has more than one gradebook, choose which one the grade items should be added to.
Leave Also copy each student's grades ticked to bring the grade values across. Untick it to copy the empty columns only.
Review the list of grade items. You can rename, adjust or remove items before saving. Any row you add by hand is created empty.
Click Save changes.
Grades are copied for every student who has one in the source class, including archived students. The destination gradebook lists the students enrolled in that class, so an archived student's copied grades appear once they are enrolled in it. The class grade and notes for the chosen gradebook are copied too, as long as the destination gradebook does not already have any.
Percentage weights within one gradebook cannot add up to more than 100, so remove or adjust items if you see a warning about the maximum grade weight. Nothing is copied until the weights fit.
Importing grades from a spreadsheet
If the grades are in a spreadsheet rather than another class, enrol the students in the class, set up the grade items, then open the Gradebook tab and click Import student grades. See Import grade results for the file format the import expects.
