This feature gives better visibility to the ES, or equivalent Dashboard user, over asset movements in relation to hazardous areas within the work site.

Tended devices in Asset mode that enter a warning zone or danger zone will trigger an in-Dashboard alert via the RAG view.

Please note:

πŸ“ Currently, Alert zones do not impact how the Tended devices alert. The feature is a Dashboard information tool, only.

πŸ“ To use this feature, devices will need to be in Asset mode.

What are Alert zones?

The alert zones feature allows you to create warning zones or danger zones that trigger alerts on the Dashboard when entered into by devices. These warning or danger zones can be created inside or outside of your existing project's geofences.

Warning zone

  • Amber zones on the Dashboard. When a Tended device in Asset mode enters a warning zone, the RAG view will display an amber alert tile. These zones should be used to define areas approaching danger.

Danger zone

  • Red zones on the Dashboard that should be drawn directly around areas of danger. When a Tended device in Asset mode enters a warning zone, the RAG view will display a red alert tile. These areas should be created to define areas of danger.

Alert zone use cases

Prevent points run-throughs

Draw a danger zone around the set of points and have warning zones on either side of the points to allow for stopping distance. The ES will then be alerted via the Dashboard's RAG view when a device attached to OTP enters the warning zone, giving them time to contact the MC to stop the movement or confirm safe passage.

Create exclusion zones around hazardous areas

Draw warning zones around hazardous areas such as Japanese knotweed or electrical areas that fall within existing safe zones. The ES monitoring the RAG view will then be alerted if a site asset, with an attached Tended device, strays into a hazardous area.

*Important note: All projects must have at least one safe zone contained within its sites. A project can not be approved if it does not contain a safe zone.

Tended devices will need to enter a safe zone first before an alert on the RAG view is triggered by them entering an Alert zone.

How do Alert zones alert on the RAG view?

Each tile on the RAG view relates to a Tended device being used in Asset mode. When using Alert zones, if a device enters a warning zone or danger zone, the RAG tile will change colour and provide a written alert to the Dashboard user.

The name of the Alert zone will appear on the RAG tile so you know which Alert zone the device has entered, or is approaching.

When the Alert zone triggers an alert on the RAG view, follow your organisation's process to contact the individual(s) responsible for the relevant Tended device.

FAQs

Why give an Alert zone a name?

The name you give an Alert zone will appear on the live map when you click on the zone as well as on the RAG view when a device enters the Alert zone, so you know where the device is.

What name should I give an Alert zone?

Follow your organisation's processes for naming Alert zones. We recommend having a clear name that identifies the area. Also, consider naming a points Alert zone with the individual points number.

Why leave notes on an Alert zone?

Consider writing notes for specific Alert zones to share information about the hazard with the project reviewer. This information will also be visible to the ES when they're monitoring the worksite during the works.

Can I start/stop Alert zones?

If you want to start and stop Alert zones during the shift to allow access etc. we'd recommend planning your Alert zones in separate sites so these can easily be stopped and started when needed

Why don't the devices alert when they enter Alert zones?

This is something that we are working on as a future feature, however, for now, the Alert zone feature should only be used as a Dashboard information tool that gives the ES (or equivalent) visibility over the work site.

The ES who receives these Dashboard alerts can then decide if they need to communicate with the device user who's responsible for the

What do I do when there's an Alert zone alert in the Dashboard?

Follow your organisation's procedures to make contact with the relevant person responsible for the device and inform them of their proximity to the warning or danger zone.
