Taxonomy: Tags & Fields

Updated over 10 months ago

Tetra’s taxonomy features allow you to structure and analyze your data by using tags and fields, enabling you to filter and extract clear insights. This guide covers how to use tags and fields effectively to manage and organize your data.

1. Tags

Tags are a core element of Tetra’s taxonomy and are used to categorize and label qualitative data. Here’s how to create and manage tags:

Creating and Managing Tags

• Navigate to the Tags area to view all tags that have been pre-created or used in your project.

• You can create new tags directly from the tags area or while analyzing data within snippets.

Create New Tags: Tags can be created at any time, even during analysis. You can then configure them further by clicking into the tag.

Tag Information and Management

• When you click into a tag, you’ll see all snippets associated with that tag.

Export Reel: Export a highlight reel or play snippets directly inside the app.

Commenting: Add comments to discuss the tag’s findings with your team.

• You can change the color and update the definition of a tag at any time.

Tag Definitions: The tag’s definition drives TetraBot’s auto-tagging feature. Ensure the definition is clear and detailed so TetraBot can properly apply the tag during automated analysis.

Bulk Tag Management

Bulk Actions: Select multiple tags to assign them to a color or tag group.

Tag Groups: Organize tags into collections (tag groups) to easily filter data during analysis.

Import/Export Tags: Click the three dots at the top right to export a CSV of all tags (name, group, color, definition). You can import this file into other projects to maintain consistency.

Applying Tags in Interviews

• Inside an interview, highlight the transcript, and your tag options will appear.

• Filter by tag groups or use autocomplete to quickly apply tags.

• You can also create a new tag by typing and selecting Create New Tag.

Advanced Tag Management Features

Rename Tags: You can rename a tag at any time, and the change will update across all snippets where the tag is applied.

Merge Tags: If you have redundant tags, you can merge them. Select the tags to merge, then choose which tag you want to retain.

2. Fields

Fields allow you to create and manage metadata that can be applied to your interviews and other research assets. Fields help organize data across projects and enable precise filtering.

Types of Fields

In any project, you can create custom fields to match your data needs. Field types include:

Text: Free text input.

Single Select: Choose one option from a predefined list.

Multi-Select: Select multiple options.

Date/Date & Time: Record dates or times.

Link: Add a URL.

Star Rating: Apply a rating system.

Assign User: Assign a field to a specific user.

Number: Use numerical values.

Viewing and Using Fields

• In any interview, you’ll see both standard fields (provided by Tetra) and custom fields that you’ve created.

• You can filter snippets and interviews by any field or combination of fields to narrow down the data you want to analyze.

Filtering with Fields

• For example, filter snippets by employment status to view snippets from participants who are employed or part-time employed. Fields allow for precise data filtering to create insights or apply tags in bulk.

3. Tag and Field Consistency

To maintain consistency across projects:

Templates: Use tags and fields within templates to standardize data analysis across projects.

Import/Export: Export and import tags and fields across projects for uniformity in data labeling and filtering.

Tetra’s taxonomy features provide powerful tools for organizing, tagging, and filtering your qualitative data. Tags and fields work together to help you manage metadata, automate analysis, and uncover key insights.
