Integrating Microsoft Teams for your Virtual interview day

Connect your Microsoft Teams account to a virtual interview day in Thalamus.

1. Account Requirements

To integrate Teams, you'll set up a third-party API connection between your Teams account and Thalamus. You must have an existing paid Teams account that can accommodate your interview day.

The Authorizing Account must meet the following requirements:

  • A valid Microsoft Account with access to Microsoft Office 365

  • At least the Application Administrator role within Active Directory, or equivalent privileges on the Microsoft Account

Note: If the admin grants consent for the entire tenant, the organization's users won't see a consent page for the application.

More information on permissions is available on Microsoft's Microsoft Entra built-in roles and Overview of permissions and consent in the Microsoft identity platform pages.

2. Set up your Azure AD Account

Reference Microsoft's documentation for additional detail on the steps below.

Your AD Administrators must set the user consent setting to either Users can consent to all apps or a Custom app consent policy. For a custom policy, see Microsoft's guide on creating a custom app consent policy.

Using Azure AD PowerShell

  1. Create a new, empty app consent policy

New-AzureADMSPermissionGrantPolicy ` -Id "my-custom-policy" ` -DisplayName "My first custom consent policy" ` -Description "This is a sample custom app consent policy."
  2. Add an "includes" condition set

    # Include delegated permissions classified "low", for apps from verified publishers New-AzureADMSPermissionGrantConditionSet ` -PolicyId "my-custom-policy" ` -ConditionSetType "includes" ` -PermissionType "delegated" ` -PermissionClassification "low" ` -ClientApplicationIds "f8ca7e03-3a98-4ef1-93b3-f1edaa4c3bb7"

Note: Alternatively, a Global Administrator can set these permissions directly in the Azure Portal, under Azure Active Directory > Enterprise applications > Consent and permissions > User consent settings.

3. Authorize Teams in Thalamus

  1. Log in to Thalamus with a permission level that can edit program settings

    • Program Administrator

    • Program Coordinator

    • Program Director

  2. Open Program Settings from the gear icon and scroll to Interview Settings

  3. Select Edit to enable configuration changes

  4. Navigate to Video Software, select Teams, then select Authorization, Login

  5. You will be redirected to the Microsoft authorization page

  6. If you are not logged in to Office 365 or Microsoft Online, you will be prompted to log in

  7. Select Accept to allow the application to access your account

  8. You will be returned to the Program Dashboard

Important: Only an administrator with tenant-wide consent authority can complete authorization without triggering an individual consent prompt for each user.

  1. In Thalamus, go to Interviews > Itinerary Builder

  2. Select an event

  3. Select a time slot for a displayed applicant, or select + Create Session
