Introducing Thrive 2.0

Everything you need to know to get the most out of Thrive.

Written by Kelsey Chan

Explore the New Homepage

The Thrive homepage has three widgets to orient you after logging in.

Projects

The projects widget shows the projects you're working on. In the beginning, you won't see much, as projects must first be assigned to you to appear. As your team populates more projects, they are categorized as open, on hold, not started, closed, and canceled. For each project, you can see the quick information on the card view, such as the project name, company location, the person leading the project, and the number of candidates.

Tasks

The tasks widget shows a list of tasks assigned to you, with relevant details like project name, related candidates, and due dates. Toggle to the Completed tab at the top to see a list of recently completed tasks.

Events

The events widget is a calendar view of your events for the day. Click into each event to see more details.

Navigation Bar

The Navigation Bar is the new way to move between sections within Thrive. It's located on the left-hand side of your screen and conveniently hides itself unless you hover over it, saving space on your screen and achieving a cleaner feel.

Navigate from the Hub to Projects, People, Companies, Analytics, Lists, Market Maps, and Exports.

Open the menu simply by hovering your cursor over any icon on the left-hand side of your screen.

Search Bar

Click on the magnifying glass icon at the top-right of your screen to launch the search bar. Here you can search for keywords, project names, specific people or companies, and more.

The search bar opens and expands when you type to show you recent searches and recently viewed items at the top. This lets you easily pick up where you left off.

Notifications

The notifications icon looks like a bell and is located at the top right of your screen. As tasks and projects are assigned to you, a red badge with a number will appear to show you how many new notifications you have received since your last log-in.

When you click on the notifications icon, you have the option to show unread notifications only or mark all as read.

Actions

The plus icon at the top-right of your screen opens up a drop down menu of actions you can take. You can quickly add notes, outreach, events, or tasks. You can also create new projects, people, or companies within your talent database.

Create and Work on a Project

In 2.0, searches are now referred to as projects. Create a new project in Thrive by clicking the plus button in the top right corner and select "Create Project." This will open a side panel where you can fill out the project details.

Enter the job title, company, and team lead. Thrive will automatically set you as one of the team members. Once you add the details, click "Create" to start the project.

The Project Detail page in Thrive is your central hub to manage all aspects of a project (Remember, in Thrive 2.0, projects = searches).

Sections

The page is organized into several key sections:

  • Side Panel: Clicking on the title of the project on the top left will open a side panel with detailed information about the project, including the position description, project strategy, notes, and outreach history.

  • Stages and Candidates: This section displays the different stages of your recruitment process (e.g., Recruiter Interview, On-Site Interview) with the number of candidates in each stage.

  • Candidate Information: When you click on a stage, you see a list of candidates within that stage. Details include their name, title, company, associated tags, relationship manager, last outreach date, and any relevant scorecards, assessments, or tasks.

Views

You can view the candidate information in two ways:

  • List View: Provides a detailed focus on candidates within a single stage.

  • Kanban View: Offers a high-level overview of all candidates across all stages, allowing you to drag and drop candidates between stages for easy management.

  • Notes:

    • You can drag and drop candidates between stages or use the "Move to Top" action to instantly send candidates to the top of their current stage

    • "Move to Top" is disabled if you have applied custom sorting to the view.

Additional Features

The Project Detail page also includes features for:

  • Searching: Find candidates within a project using accurate keyword searching for the candidate’s name, primary company, or primary title.

  • Filtering and Sorting: Refine the candidate list based on various criteria.

  • Sourcing: Add new candidates to the project.

  • Task Management: Create and manage tasks related to the project or specific candidates.

  • Bulk Candidate Tagging: Save time by selecting multiple candidates within a project to efficiently add or remove tags for all of them at once. The streamlined modal shows which tags are applied to some, all, or none of your selected candidates.

Set Your Strategy and Source Candidates

Strategy

The search strategy section in Thrive helps you and your team define and align on the approach for finding the right candidates. You can access the search strategy section by opening the side panel for the project and going to the strategy tab.

The key components include:

  • Tags: Add tags relevant to the search, such as skills, experience, or location. Some tags may already be added based on the company.

  • Target Companies: Identify companies you want to focus on for sourcing candidates.

  • Benchmark Candidates: Specify individuals who represent the ideal profile for the position.

  • Similar Projects: Link to other projects that might offer relevant insights or inspiration.

  • Interview Scorecard: Define how you will evaluate candidates. You can select an existing global template or create a project-specific scorecard directly within this tab. This allows you to define criteria and descriptions instantly without needing to leave the project or request an Admin to build a template.

By filling out the strategy section, everyone on the project team can have a clear understanding of the search approach and the desired candidate profile.

Source Candidates

Quickly add candidates to your project by clicking the "Source Candidates" button, which opens a side panel with a list of recommended candidates based on the search strategy for the project. This draws from information based on selected target companies, benchmark candidates, and similar projects.

If you want to search for candidates yourself, you can type in keywords such as title, company, or name.

Easily add candidates to your project by clicking the plus button next to their names. This option appears when you hover over the candidate.

You can add multiple candidates at once by clicking the checkbox next to their name.

Learn About Candidates

Candidate Side Panel

The candidate side panel in Thrive gives you a comprehensive view of a candidate's qualifications and background. You can open the candidate side panel by clicking on their name.

Here are the key sections of the candidate side panel:

  • Candidate Card: Candidate's name, stage, off-limits status, and contact links

  • Overview: A high-level summary of the candidate, including tags, an AI-generated summary, and a glimpse of their experience, notes, outreach, and scorecards

  • Experience: Candidate's work history and education

  • Notes: Notes taken by you and others in your firm about the candidate

  • Outreach: A history of outreach sent to the candidate

  • Scorecards: Assessments done for the candidate and their ratings

  • Events: Interviews and meetings you've had with the candidate

Other tabs, such as off-limits history, documents, and compensation details, may also be available.

Candidate Analytics

The other way to learn about candidates is through the Candidate Analytics report, which provides valuable insights into your candidate pool and their progress throughout the hiring process. To access Candidate Analytics, click on the project and navigate to the "Analytics" tab.

Within this report, you'll find the following information:

Overall Project Stats

  • Total Candidates: The total number of candidates associated with the project.

  • Active Candidates: The number of candidates currently being considered.

Charts and Visualizations

  • Candidate Pipeline: Shows the distribution of candidates across different stages in the hiring process, both in terms of the number of candidates and the percentage of the total candidate pool

  • Rejected Candidates: Breaks down the reasons why candidates were rejected, helping you identify any trends or areas for improvement in your process.

  • Candidates Added Week to Week: Displays the inflow of candidates over time, allowing you to track the effectiveness of your sourcing efforts

  • Candidate Pool: A detailed overview of the characteristics of your candidate pool, including their companies, titles, locations, sectors, and company sizes.

By analyzing this information, you can better understand your candidate sources, identify bottlenecks in your pipeline, and make data-driven decisions to optimize your hiring process.

Log Candidate Outreach, Interviews, and Assessments

Thrive offers several workflows to help you manage candidates.

Logging Outreaches

You can log an outreach by clicking the quick action button on the candidate card. This opens the outreach form, where you can fill out details about the outreach, such as the project, candidate, subject, and method. You can also use the Gmail integration to push emails from your email client into Thrive.

  • Bulk Outreach: You can now log outreach for multiple candidates at once.

    • From a Project: Select multiple candidates using the checkboxes within a project stage, choose Log Outreach, and complete a single outreach form. Thrive will automatically create an individual outreach record for each selected candidate, with date and time fields pre-populated.

    • From the People Index: You can perform bulk outreach actions directly from the People Index page (global search results). This allows you to contact talent immediately without needing to navigate to individual profiles or add them to a project first.

      • Persistent Selection: When you bulk select candidates to perform actions like moving stages or logging outreach, your selections remain active. This allows you to apply several actions in a row (e.g., Log Outreach, then Add Tag) without re-selecting candidates

      • Selections will clear if you refresh the page, remove candidates from a project, or reject candidates.

  • Edit Manually Created Outreaches: If you need to modify details on an outreach you created manually within Thrive (e.g., change the date, method, or subject), you can now edit the record directly.

    • Gmail Integration Note: Outreaches that were automatically created via the Gmail integration cannot be edited within Thrive.

  • Outreach Across Multiple Projects: You can link a single outreach to multiple projects simultaneously. This simplifies bulk outreach from the Quick Create Menu or a Person's Profile Side Panel.

    • Note: Linking an outreach to a project does not automatically add the candidate to that project. The activity will simply be logged in the "Outreach" tab for the candidate and the selected projects.

Scheduling Interviews

You can schedule an interview by clicking the "Add Event" quick action button on the candidate card. This opens the event form, where you can fill out the event details, such as the date, time, event type, location, and attendees. Once you have the details, click "Create" to create the event. If you have the calendar integration set up, the event will be reflected on your calendar.

Logging Assessments and Scorecards

Once you have completed an interview, you can log the assessment and scorecard by opening the candidate's profile and going to the scorecard section. You can create a new scorecard by clicking the plus button. This opens the scorecard form, where you can add notes and fill in your star ratings for each criterion.

Create, Assign, and Manage Tasks

Thrive provides a task management system to help you stay organized and coordinate with your team. To view your tasks, click the task icon. This will show you a list of tasks assigned to you and your team members.

You can complete tasks by clicking the checkbox or opening the task form and marking it as complete.

To create a new task, click the plus button. You can then name the task, assign it to a project and team member, and set a due date. Completed tasks are shown in the completed form.

Extend a Job Offer

When you're ready to extend an offer to a candidate in Thrive, move them into the "Offer" stage within the project. This will open an offer form where you fill in the details.

The offer form will automatically populate with the candidate's information and the current date. Select the candidate's start date and upload a document with the offer details. Fill out the offer details in the form.

Cash

  • Currency

  • Compensation

  • Bonus (includes additional fields for relocation and signing)

Equity

  • Initial equity grant (viewed as a percentage or number of shares)

  • Initial equity gross value

  • Annual equity grant (viewed as a percentage or number of shares)

Total Estimated Compensation

  • This field allows you to share the total value of the compensation package

  • This is not automatically calculated, as the method varies by organization

If you don't have all the offer details, turn off the "Available" toggle and fill in the details later. Once you have all the details, click "Create" to create the offer.

Search and Discover Candidates in Your Database

Search for people in your Thrive database by navigating to the People page and using the search bar.

Filter your search results by company, location, and sector.

To further refine your search, you can open the filter panel and filter by title, function, seniority, experience, and skill. You can also pull from past projects or specific lists you have created.

Advanced People Index Filters

We’ve made it easier to find the right people by adding new filters to the people index. You can now filter by:

  • Years at primary company

  • Years in primary position

  • Job preferences

    • Availability

    • Level

    • Stage

    • Function

    • Sector

  • Document type

This update gives you more control and flexibility to quickly zero in on the talent you are looking for.

  • Search Tags: You can now search the person index using sector tags, revenue scale tags, and headcount scale tags. This allows for queries such as "CEOs who have scaled a company to $500M" or "Executives who have scaled teams to 1000."

Build Lists

Thrive's Lists feature allows you to organize people and companies into lists for specific purposes, such as grouping talent by function or sector, or organizing companies you've worked with.

To manage lists, go to the Lists page and navigate between People Lists and Company Lists.

In People Lists, view individuals in a specific list, see their profiles, and take actions like adding them to another list, adding them to a project, or logging outreaches and events. Company Lists function similarly, allowing you to view and open company profiles.

To create a new list, click the "Create a List" button, give it a name, and add people or companies by clicking the plus button next to their profiles in the search results.

Configure the Chrome Extension

Thrive’s LinkedIn Chrome extension opens as a side panel on LinkedIn profiles. It helps you match people to Thrive, create or update records, and optionally use LinkedIn PDF downloads for richer profile data.

  1. Click "My Account" by navigating to the people icon at the top right of your screen

  2. Scroll down Integrations and find the "Chrome Extension" section, LinkedIn Assistant

  3. Click the "Add to Chrome" button

  4. Click "Add to Chrome" on the Chrome Web Store.

  5. Click "Add Extension" in the confirmation window.

  6. Return to Thrive's "My Account" section.

  7. Click "Authorize the Extension."

  8. The extension will now be authorized, and you can begin using it on LinkedIn.

Optional: To pin your extension to the Google Chrome browser, select the puzzle piece on the right of the extensions. In the drop-down, click on the pin icon. Your Thrive extension will now be pinned in your browser.

Use the Chrome Extension

Once successfully installed, here's what you can do with the Chrome extension.

What you can do

  • Match a LinkedIn profile to Thrive using basic information (name and LinkedIn URL)

  • Link to an existing Thrive person, or add a new person when there’s no match

  • See the candidate’s primary position in the extension so you can quickly decide whether the Thrive profile needs an update

  • Create or update Thrive profiles from a LinkedIn profile PDF when you download one — the extension can intercept that PDF and use it for accurate profile data

Match or create a person from LinkedIn

  1. Open a LinkedIn profile.

  2. Open the Thrive side panel extension.

  3. Review the suggested match based on name and LinkedIn URL.

  4. Choose to:

    • Link to an existing Thrive profile, or

    • Add a new person if no match is correct

  5. Confirm primary position and other details as needed, then continue your workflow in Thrive (for example, add to a project or list).

Create or update from a LinkedIn PDF

When you download a LinkedIn profile PDF, the extension can intercept that file so you can create or refresh the Thrive profile with data from the export. Use this when you want a fuller, more accurate import than basic matching alone.

Add a New Profile

When you're on a LinkedIn profile and want to add it to Thrive, simply click the Thrive Chrome extension icon. The extension will search for the person in your Thrive account. If the profile doesn't exist, click the plus button. The extension will then scrape the profile information and create a new entry in Thrive. Once complete, you'll see a link that takes you directly to the new profile within your Thrive account, where you can add it to a list or project.

Handle Existing Profiles

If you use the Chrome extension on a LinkedIn profile that already exists in Thrive, the extension will notify you that an "exact match" is found. You won't need to create a new profile. You can simply click the provided link to go back to the existing profile in Thrive and continue your workflow.

Refresh Profile Data

To ensure you have the most up-to-date information, you can also refresh an existing profile's data. Just click the refresh button within the extension when viewing a LinkedIn profile that's already in Thrive. The extension will re-scrape the profile and update the information in your Thrive account.

Configure the Gmail Extension

The Gmail extension allows users to seamlessly log emails from Gmail directly into Thrive. To download and install the Gmail extension, follow these steps:

1. Set Up the Extension

  1. Click "My Account" by navigating to the people icon at the top right of your screen

  2. Scroll down Integrations and find the "Google Logging" section

  3. Click the "Add to Chrome" button

  4. Click "Add to Chrome" on the Chrome Web Store.

  5. Click "Add Extension" in the confirmation window.

2. Authorize Extension in Thrive

Once the extension is installed in Chrome, you need to authorize it within your Thrive account:

  1. Go to Thrive: Navigate to your Thrive account in your web browser.

  2. Access My Account: Click on the User icon (usually in the top right corner) and select My Account.

  3. Connect Google Email: In the Integrations section, click on the Google Email integration to connect your Google account. Follow the prompts to complete the connection.

  4. Authorize Chrome Extension: After successfully connecting your Google account, click the Authorize Chrome Extension button.

3. Send an Email with Thrive Integration

Now you're ready to log emails directly from Gmail to Thrive:

  1. Compose an Email: Go to your Gmail and click Compose to start a new email.

  2. Enable Logging: You should now see a "Log in Thrive" checkbox within the compose window. Ensure this checkbox is checked to log the email.

  3. Relate to a Project (Optional): You'll also have the option to relate the email to a specific project within Thrive.

Recipient Status Indicators:

  • If an email recipient is already a contact in Thrive, a Thrive logo will appear next to their name.

  • If a recipient is not in Thrive, hovering over their email address will display a tooltip indicating they are not yet in the system.

Important Note: If no recipients in your email match existing Thrive contacts, an error will appear. This indicates that the email cannot be logged because it lacks a corresponding contact to associate with in Thrive.

4. View Outreach in Thrive

After sending an email with Thrive recipients and the "Log in Thrive" checkbox checked, you can verify it's been logged:

  1. Navigate to Thrive: Go back to your Thrive account.

  2. Access Outreach Tab: Navigate to the Outreach tab of the associated project or candidate profile.

  3. View Logged Email: You should now see the email successfully logged in the Outreach section.
