Creating a Market Map in Thrive can significantly streamline your talent research and help you visualize key players in specific market segments. The Market Maps feature centralizes research on target companies and dynamically updates whenever a person’s job title or company affiliation changes, ensuring you have an up-to-date view.
How to Create a Market Map
Creating a Market Map in Thrive involves defining the companies and the roles you are interested in.
From the main hub in Thrive 2.0, locate the left-hand sidebar.
Click on the Market Maps
In the upper right corner, click the Add button
Enter a Market Map Name (required)
Add a Description for the market map (optional)
Click Create Map
Add Companies and Target Roles to Your Market Map
Once you create a map, it’s time to input the companies and functions that will populate your market map with people from your talent database.
Click Add Companies, either individually from a previously created company List
Add Companies individually: Use the search box to type in a single company name (e.g., "Apple") and select it to add to the map
Add Companies from a List: Search for existing lists you've created in Thrive (previously called networks in Thrive 1.0). Select a list (e.g., "Large Tech"). From the list preview, you can bulk-select companies or choose them one by one to add to your market map.
Navigate to the More Actions ⋮ icon in the upper right
Click Edit
Add the desired levels for the roles you are interested in (e.g., CxO, VP, Director)
Note: Currently, you can select a maximum of three levels
Select the desired Function(s) (e.g., Marketing)
Note: There is no limit to the number of functions a user can add
Click Save
The system will automatically populate the map with individuals from the database who match the selected companies, levels, and functions based on their job titles in their experience records (current and past).
Refine Your Market Map
Switch Views: Use the tabs at the top to toggle between the Map view (grid), Company view (list of companies with people listed under each), and People view (list of individuals with long cards displaying more details like recent activity, notes, and scorecards).
Search and Filter: Use the search bar to find individuals by name within the map. Use the filter options to narrow down results by company attributes (name, location, industry, sector, asset class, tags) or people attributes (seniority level, function, location, and last outreach).
Sort: Sort companies or people within the market map using various attributes (name, revenue, headcount, asset class, outreach, last scheduled event, and level of interest).
Prioritize Companies: Mark specific companies as priority to have them appear at the top of the list.
Hard Refresh: If you believe the map isn't showing the most up-to-date information, you can manually trigger a refresh to re-scrape the database.
Market Map Sharing and Permissions
Market Maps are visible to all internal users by default upon creation. To change the visibility, click the More Actions icon in the upper-right corner and select Share from the dropdown.
Invite other users to view your Market Map and assign them different permissions. You can also change the General Access to Editor, Viewer, or Restricted. Note: Users need view access to both People and Companies to see Market Maps.
You can export company and people lists from the Market Map to CSV files.
Common Questions
Does the seniority level and function mapping pull from our existing tags, or is it based on something else?
The seniority level and function are currently determined by a static list predefined by Thrive, which was normalized against large datasets of job titles. Market Maps do not currently use custom levels or functions. You can change a person’s level in Thrive by clicking Name > Overview > Level > Save. Changes will be reflected in the market map automatically.
Do these market maps remain static, or do they automatically update in real-time?
Market Maps are dynamic and will automatically update in the background. If an individual's experience changes (e.g., they join a new company or their title changes), they will be automatically added to or removed from the relevant market map if they then match or no longer match the criteria. Users can manually refresh a market map by clicking on the More Actions (⋮) icon in the upper right and selecting Refresh from the dropdown menu.
Will there be a way to customize how levels are mapped, especially considering differences between companies (e.g., a Senior Director at one company might be a VP elsewhere)?
This is a known challenge and something the team is keeping in mind. The Thrive team plans to continually iterate on the level and function mapping to potentially account for differences in company size and how levels compare across organizations in the future. Can we filter or sort the people in the market map based on search-oriented data like the highest stage reached in a project or assessment scores?
No. Currently, you can only filter by "Last Outreach.” The team plans to add filters for "Minimum Stage Reached" and note-related filters and will consider adding other search-oriented filters based on feedback.
Can we manually add or remove specific individuals from a market map?
No, you cannot remove specific individuals from a Market Map since their previous or current experience is mapped to both a company and a function that was selected in the market map criteria. You can remove companies from a Market Map, which removes all associated people.
Is there anything about Market Maps that requires admin access?
Creating and managing Market Maps does not require Admin access. The only related permission dependency is that users need "view company" and "view people" access configured in the admin settings to be able to see Market Maps.
Can we export Market Maps as a .csv file?
No. Currently, you can only share a market map with other Thrive users. Someone needs to be invited into the system and granted view or edit access to your specific map in order to view.
