How to Connect Your Google Drive as a Data Source

Updated over a month ago

Want to pull files directly from your Google Drive into Tinkery? No problem. Tinkery lets you connect individual documents or whole folders from your Drive — and creates a secure copy inside your Project.

Here’s how to set it up:

1. Go to the Data Sources Module

Click the 📄 Data Sources icon (5th from the top) in the left-hand navigation bar.

2. Click “+ Create Data Source”

You’ll find this button in the top-right corner of the Data Sources view.

3. Choose Google Drive

From the list of data source types, select Google Drive.

4. Paste Your File and Folder Links

Tinkery requires:

  • ✅ The link to the specific Google Drive file you want to import

  • ✅ The link to the containing folder (to validate file access)

Once both are added, click Setup Source.

5. Grant Access to Your Google Account

You’ll be redirected to a secure Google login screen.

👉 Choose the account that owns the file/folder

👉 Click Allow to let Tinkery access the selected Drive files

🔐 Don’t worry — Tinkery only accesses the files and folders you explicitly authorize. Your data remains private and unchanged.

6. That’s It — You’re Connected

Once access is granted, the file or folder will appear in your Data Sources list.

✅ Note: Adding a Drive file does not automatically activate it. You’ll need to link it to a Project to begin working with it.

Best Practices

  • Make sure your file/folder sharing settings allow access to the Google account you’re connecting.

  • Use clear filenames and consistent formatting within your Drive files — this helps Tinkery understand and process your data faster.

  • Tinkery supports spreadsheets, CSVs, and PDFs from Drive. Unsupported formats may not upload correctly.

What’s Next?

Once connected:

➡️ Tinkery imports the file(s)

➡️ Extracts tables or content

➡️ And gets your Project workspace ready for action
