Check Power and Basic Function

Purpose: Confirm that the TV powers on correctly.

  1. Make sure the power cable is firmly seated in both the TV and the wall outlet.

  2. Try a different power outlet. Avoid power strips, if possible.

  3. Press the physical power button on the TV, not just the remote.

  4. Look for the following:

    • The power LED turns on or off.

    • The screen lights up, even briefly.

    • The backlight glows in a dark room.

If there are no lights or response, the issue is likely related to the power board or internal hardware.

Test the Backlight

Purpose: Determine whether the panel or backlight is working.

  1. Turn the TV on.

  2. Shine a flashlight at an angle against the screen.

  3. Look closely for faint images or menus.

Results:

  • Image visible: Backlight failure

  • No image: Panel, main board, or signal issue

Test the Input and Source

Purpose: Confirm that the TV can display an external signal.

  1. Disconnect all devices from the TV.

  2. Connect one known-good device, such as a laptop, streaming stick, or DVD player.

  3. Use a known-good HDMI cable.

  4. Manually switch inputs using the TV menu, such as HDMI 1 or HDMI 2.

Note: Plug in a laptop and toggle the display output. For Windows, press Win + P. For Mac, go to Displays and select Detect Displays.

Test the On-Screen Menu

Purpose: Check internal video processing.

  1. Press Menu or Settings on the TV.

  2. Confirm that the menu:

    • Appears

    • Is readable

    • Responds to navigation

Results:

  • Menu works, but there is no video: Source or HDMI issue

  • Menu does not appear: Internal hardware issue

Check External Factors

Try different:

  • HDMI ports

  • HDMI cables

  • Input devices

Inspect for:

  • Physical screen cracks

  • Water or heat damage

  • Burn marks or discoloration
