Some Ways to Use This Metric:

Understand Global Trends

  • Over time, changes in average test scores by country can signal shifts in educational standards, educational policies, access to test preparation resources, and/or socio-economic factors. Use these trends to adjust outreach and admission strategies accordingly, ensuring your institution remains competitive and responsive to global changes.

Identify High-Performing Regions

  • These data may be used to identify countries or regions with higher average scores, signaling potential hubs of strong candidates. These regions could then become focus areas for recruitment campaigns, in-person events, and/or virtual outreach.

Contextualize Applicant Scores

  • Analyzing average test scores across different countries may help you better interpret an applicant’s performance relative to their peers in the same country. For instance, a score that might be average globally could be outstanding within a specific country, suggesting that the applicant has excelled in their local context.

Overall, analyzing average test score distributions by country may enable you to make more informed, fair, and strategic decisions, ensuring a diverse and qualified applicant pool aligned with your institution's goals.

*About Metrics:

  • Dashboard metrics display information about TOEFL iBT test takers who applied to your institution and are based on information provided to ETS by those TOEFL iBT test takers.

  • Metrics reflect the number of score reports received by your institution, which may differ from the number of applicants.

  • Metrics are reported when there are 10 or more scores in a selected date range.
