Creating Tickets with Precision Time Planning

Break Down Daily Work into Hourly and Minute-Level Scheduling in Touchplan

Written by Corrine Shuler

Precision Time Planning gives teams the ability to plan, coordinate, and manage work by the hour and minute when projects demand greater precision. This feature is ideal for projects that require detailed scheduling, such as shutdowns, crane operations, deliveries, shift work, commissioning activities, or tasks that occur multiple times throughout the same day. Click here to learn how to enable Precision Time Planning for a new plan.

With Precision Time Planning enabled, teams can:

  • Schedule activities at specific times during the day

  • Improve coordination between crews, trades, and shifts

  • Better manage short-duration tasks

  • Create more accurate schedules for time-sensitive work

  • Visualize work sequences and handoffs throughout the day

Adjust Your Timeline View

To work with Precision Time Planning, first change your timeline zoom level:

  1. In the bottom-left corner of the plan, adjust the zoom profile to Hourly.

  2. As you zoom in on a specific date, the timeline automatically transitions from a daily view to an hourly view.

  3. Solid vertical lines on the timeline represent individual hours, making it easier to place activities at precise times.

Create a Ticket Using Precision Time Planning

  1. Click on one of the ticket icons in the bottom-right corner of the plan to open the ticket edit window.

  2. Enter the task details (Description, Location, Crew size, Custom fields).

  3. Select Plan by Time/Hours.

  4. Enter the planned duration in hours and minutes.

  5. Click Save.

  6. Drag the activity from the Draft area onto the timeline and place it at the desired start time.

The activity will appear on the schedule at the selected time and duration, allowing teams to coordinate work with greater precision.
