Manage Ads

Updated over 4 months ago

This feature is only available with the following products:

This feature allows you to create and place ads on your own website. We offer a dashboard where you can view reports about the number of unique impressions and clicks. This feature is not enabled for your account by default. If you would like it enabled, contact support.

Setting up the Ads:

Once this feature is enabled, you can start setting up the Ads. Follow the instructions below:

  1. Go to Customer Center > Customer Settings > Ads.

  2. Create a new campaign. A campaign is one rotating set of ads.

To create a campaign, name it, and select the size of the ad. The available options are square, tower, rectangle, rectangular banner, banner. You can also create an ad with a custom size. Click "Next".

  3. Once the campaign is created, you are taken to the Manage Ads page. Here you will see all ads which match the campaign size. If there are no ads of this size, you will need to create a new ad.

  4. Click on "Create New Ad".

Creating a new ad does not require much information. You can upload an image, add a link (optional), and optionally fill in a title and description. You do not have a size selector here because we use the campaign size. The link is validated as if it is filled in to be a proper URL. We also use the file uploader to allow users to upload files as large as you want. Once the photo is uploaded, you can zoom in and out and you can also drag the photo around to select a specific region of the photo. Once saved, we automatically add this ad as part of the campaign with a priority of 1.

Managing the Ads:

You can view the statistics and manage every ad that you create. For the overall campaign we show:

  • Number of clicks - all clicks registered on all the ads - might not be unique, the same person (identified by an IP address) can click multiple times the same link and we will count each click

  • Number of unique clicks - we only count clicks from distinct IP addresses

  • Number of impressions - essentially, how many times a certain ad showed up in the rotating iframe

  • Number of unique impressions - how many persons viewed a certain ad uniquely, if the same person sees the ad the second time in the rotating iframe, we do not count it

  • The date of the last click and the date of the last impression

You can also see the statistics for each ad.

We use the priority number to build a list of possible ads, each ad is repeated as many times as the priority says. We then take a random ad from this list so that we do not show the same ad one after the other if possible. We will tweak this algorithm to also include duration, right now we poll every 6 seconds for new ads.

The Preview & Embed tab shows the embed code and a preview of the rotating campaign.

The General Statistics tab shows a chart with the number of unique clicks and impressions and how it evolved in time.
