Mobile Scoring Stations

Updated over 4 months ago

This feature is only available with the following products:

You may want to use live scoring for certain events but not want the players entering scores themselves on the mobile app. Instead, you may want to have scoring volunteers or pro shop staff assigned to certain areas of the golf course to collect player scores for certain holes. For instance, a volunteer may be placed on the 10th tee to collect scores from holes 5 thru 9. This scoring volunteer is responsible for entering only players' scores for those particular holes. Other volunteers are responsible for entering scores on other holes.

(Note: If you are assigning a walking scorer for every pairing group, we do not suggest using the Scoring Stations feature. Click Here for instructions on using walking scorers.)

Our Scoring Station feature allows volunteers or staff to log in and use our iPhone, Android or iPad app to enter scores for their assigned holes. The app is a quick and easy way to update live leaderboards. You may find that the larger screen area of the iPad app is especially convenient for entering scores.

This feature can be very useful for clubs (as well as golf associations) that would like to utilize live scoring AND eliminate the necessity for players to enter their own scores.

Setting Up and Assigning Scoring Stations:

To set up and assign Scoring Stations for a round, go to Rounds > Mobile App Stations > Add Scoring Station. There are two ways to add scoring stations.

  • Add a Single Station: When adding one station at a time, create a name for the station (e.g., Halfway House, #10 tee, etc). If there are multiple courses used in the round, select the specific course to be used. Then, select the holes that the volunteer on that station will be responsible for. There may be cases where one Scoring Station will be responsible for multiple groups of holes. For instance, in the sequence below we are creating the "Halfway House" Scoring Station where the volunteer is responsible for entering scores for holes 6-9 and 13-16. The physical location of the Halfway House allows the volunteer to collect scores for both groups of holes.

  • Add Multiple Scoring Stations: Rather than creating Scoring Stations one at time, you can alternatively add multiple Scoring Stations at once. When doing this, select how many Scoring Stations you'd like to create, then the location of each Scoring Station (which will determine what holes each Scoring Station is responsible for).

Once the multiple Scoring Stations are created, you can individually edit each one (change name, holes assigned, etc) if needed.

When setting up scoring stations, there are some other options:

  • Scoring Mode: Scorers can enter scores on the mobile app by the two following options:

    • Scores are entered one player at a time: If playing Stroke Play, it will likely make more sense to enter scores one player at a time.

    • Scores are entered one hole at a time: If playing Match Play, it will likely make more sense to enter scores one hole at a time. Later in this article, the scorer experience for both options will be displayed.

  • Allow scorer to edit their scores after verification: During the volunteers process of using the mobile or iPad app (more on this later), they will first verify (review) the scores they've entered, then officially save the scores. When adding a Scoring Station, you can optionally allow the volunteer to go back and edit scores even after they were verified and saved. If this option is left unchecked, the volunteer will not be able to edit scores after saving them.

  • Extra Holes: There are some playoff hole options available if the scoring mode selected is "one hole at a time" (Match Play). If extra holes are used, always make sure the match play tournament tie-breaker is set up for "Extra Holes".

    • Scorers cannot access extra holes: With this option, volunteer scores will not be able to score extra holes on the mobile app.

    • Scorers can enter scores for extra holes added by the manager: The manager will define the extra holes for a tied match, and the volunteer scorer can enter scores on extra holes.

    • Scorers can enter scores and add new extra holes on the app: With this option, the volunteer can enter extra holes and enter scores on the extra holes.

Once Scoring Stations are assigned, a GGID will be listed for each station. The volunteers for each station can then use their assigned GGIDs to login to the mobile or iPad app.

Before the start of the event, make sure to move the round to "In Progress" and enable Mobile Score Entry under the Rounds Menu. (Note: Also make sure to turn off mobile score entry after the round is complete.) The scorers will then be able to log into the mobile or iPad app.

Stroke Play Scoring Mode (score entry one player at a time):

When selecting the "Stroke Play" scoring mode, scorers enter their assigned GGID into the mobile app, and are presented with the event information.

This will ensure the scorer that he/she has entered the correct GGID and should continue on. After clicking "Continue", the scorer will be presented with the list of pairing groups.

Pairing groups with a green circle indicate that all scores for the holes assigned to the scoring station have been completed. The yellow “partial pie” circle indicates missing scores for the holes assigned to the scoring station. The grey circle is the default state - no scores have been entered for the holes assigned to the scoring station.

Rather than scrolling through the list of pairing groups, they can optionally search for a player at the top. If the scorer is responsible for more than one group of holes, they can tab from one group to the other at the top (see screenshot above). The live leaderboard can also be viewed by clicking on "Results" on the top right.

When clicking on a pairing group:

  1. The scorer is asked to enter scores, for the holes they are assigned, for the first player in the pairing group.

  2. After entering the scores, the scorer clicks "Verify Scores". They can then review the scores they just entered for the first player.

  3. If the scores were entered correctly after review, the volunteer clicks "Save Scores". At this point those scores are posted to the live leaderboard. The scorer may or may not be able to go back and edit the scores depending on what permissions option was selected by the Manager when setting up the Scoring Station.

  4. After the scores are saved for the 1st player, the scorer is asked to enter scores for the remaining players in the pairing group using the same process.

The sequence above shows the process a scorer will go through to enter, verify, and save scores for a pairing group. The scorer can always navigate back to the pairing group list or view the leaderboard by clicking "Results".

Match Play Scoring Mode (score entry one hole at a time):

The Match Play scoring mode allows the user to enter scores one hole at a time, obviously ideal for match play. Like the Stroke Play mode, scorers will enter their assigned GGID, see the round information, and continue on to view the list of pairing groups.

When clicking on a pairing group, scores can be entered, verified, and saved. The match status will update above as scores are being entered. If there are multiple matches within a pairing group, the match statuses will rotate every few seconds.

The sequence above shows a scorer logging in, selecting a pairing group, and entering scores for the pairing group.

Once a match is final, the scorer will be informed of the status.

In the sequence above, the scorer finishes entering scores and is presented with a message that the match is complete. The scorer can choose to continue to enter scores or stop.

If scorers are permitted to enter scores for extra holes, then there will be an Extra Holes" tab on the pairing groups list page.

When clicking on the "Extra Holes" tab, the scorer can then select the pairing group to enter the extra hole scores. From there, they can enter the scores and (if they have permission) even create new extra holes if needed.

In the sequence above, a scorer is entering extra hole scores for the Sumrow/Sullivan match. Their first extra hole (played on hole #1) was already assigned by the manager. So the scorer simply entered scores for that hole. Because they tied the extra hole, a new extra hole needed to be created. This scorer created the 2nd extra hole, choosing to play hole #1 again. Sumrow wins that hole, thus winning the match.

Using the iPad App for Scoring Stations:

The iPad App can also be used with the Scoring Station feature. Like the mobile app, the scorer can enter his/her assigned GGID into the iPad app. The instructions to enter scores with the iPad are the same as the mobile app instructions above. See below for an example of entering scores in the iPad App for a stroke play tournament.

Scoring Stations are a powerful and convenient feature when you want to take advantage of live scoring and avoid having competitors themselves enter their hole-by-hole scores.
