Updating Handicap Indexes from GHIN

There are several ways we can interact with GHIN to retrieve and update Handicap Indexes for the Master Roster:

  • Manually Update Handicap Indexes for the Master Roster (Non-GHIN Customers)

  • Automatically Updating Handicap Indexes for the Master Roster

Additionally, there are serval ways to retrieve and update Handicap Indexes from GHIN in Events/Leagues:

  • Propagating Updates from the Master Roster to Events/Leagues

  • Manually Updating Handicap Indexes within specific Events/Leagues

  • Automatically Updating Handicap Indexes within specific Events/Leagues

In this article, we will discuss how to set up the ability to Update Handicap Indexes from GHIN.

Setting GHIN as your Handicap Index Service Provider:

Before updating your players Handicap Index from GHIN you must establish GHIN as your Handicap Index Service Provider.

You can establish GHIN as your Handicap Index Service Provider for the Master Roster and all future events/leagues from the Default Settings in the Customer Center.

To establish GHIN as your Handicap Index Service provider, enable this function (if not yet enabled) by following these instructions:

  1. Go to Customer Center > Customer Settings > Default Settings for Leagues or Events > Handicap Settings.

    1. If using GHIN as your Handicap Service Provider within a specific event/league, you can set that from the Event/League Profile. To enable this function (if not yet enabled) in the League/Event Profile, go to League/Event Menu > League/Event Profile > Handicap Settings. Go to the Handicap Index Service section (as shown below).

  2. Go to the Handicap Index Service section (as shown below).

  3. Use the first drop-down menu to choose GHIN.

  4. The second dropdown menu can be used to select the type of Handicap Index you would like to retrieve. You have the following options:

    1. Current Handicap Index: The most recent Handicap Index from the daily revision. This is the most commonly used Handicap Index.

    2. WHS Low Handicap Index: A Low Handicap Index is the lowest Handicap Index achieved over the 365-day period preceding the most recent score in your scoring record. A Low Handicap Index is established once you have 20 scores in your scoring record.

    3. Lowest Handicap Index: Retrieve the lowest Handicap Index that each player has had in the past 3, 6, or 12 months regardless of the number of rounds recorded.

    4. Average of: Select two or more Handicap Index types (e.g., Current, WHS Low, Lowest H.I. in past 3/6/12 months, etc.) to be averaged into one Handicap Index (as shown below).

  5. Click "Save."

Manually Updating Handicap Indexes for the Master Roster (Non-GHIN Customers):

If you maintain players in the master roster with GHIN Handicap Indexes, you can update their Handicap Indexes by going to Customer Center > Master Roster > Access GHIN to Update Handicap Indexes.

Automatically Updating Handicap Indexes for the Master Roster:

If the players in your master roster have GHIN ID#'s, you can allow the system to update their Handicap Indexes in the master roster daily. For details on this option, Click Here.

Propagate Handicap Indexes Updates from the Master Roster to Events/Leagues:

You can retrieve the Handicap Indexes for your entire Master Roster by updating your Master Roster manually or setting up daily automatic updates. When doing so, you can then propagate the new Handicap Indexes to any future events and leagues.

Manually Updating Handicap Indexes within an Event/League:

Follow these instructions:

  1. Go to Golfers > Access GHIN to update Handicap Indexes.

  2. Select specific players or all players using the checkboxes. Additionally, you can use the search option to find players quickly.

  3. Select the update method. In addition to the options discussed in the previous sections, you can also retrieve Handicap Indexes using the following methods:

    1. Handicap Index on a specific date: Retrieve Handicap Indexes from a specific past date.

    2. Lowest Handicap Index over a specific date range: Select a start and end date to retrieve the lowest Handicap Index within that date range.

  4. (Event/League Only) If you have multiple rounds, select the round you would like to update Handicap Indexes for. That round and all following rounds will be updated unless updated have been turned off for that round. For more details on turning off handicap updates for a specific round, Click Here.

  5. Click "Update".

Automatically Updating Handicaps for Event/Leagues:

When updating Handicaps for Events/League automatically, you will have multiple options (as shown below):

  • Automatically update Handicap Indexes from the Master Roster into Event Roster: This option allows you to sync your event/league roster handicaps with your master roster. For complete details on this option, Click Here. Note: This option is only available if checked at the customer level default settings, and this update only occurs on the day of a scheduled round.

  • Click to automatically update handicap indexes in the event roster: This option allows for more control over when a handicap update will occur and is not dependent on master roster updates. For complete details on this option, Click Here.

To enable one of these options, follow these directions:

  1. Within an Event/League, go to Event/League > Event/League Profile > Handicap Settings.

  2. Go to the Handicap Index Service section.

  3. Enable the option "Click to set automatic Handicap Index Updates" (as shown below).

  4. Click the option you wish to enable.

  5. Make any additional adjustments and click "Save."

Status Update when Manually Updating Handicaps:

Players with good last name & GHIN # in your player roster will show in green, players with bad GHIN IDs will show in red, and players with good GHIN #'s but last names that do not match will show in yellow.

Automatic Re-Fill for Divisions/Flights:

If you run a weekly league and meet the following parameters, you can use the automatic re-fill feature:

  • Created divisions/flights using Playing Handicap or Handicap Index.

  • Re-fill the divisions/flights after every Handicap Index update.
