Filtering with Report Composer

Updated over 4 months ago

This feature is available for the following products:

When using the Report Composer, there may be times when you need to filter certain information presented on a report. Some examples of when you may want to use filters are:

  • Printing only senior players

  • Printing only teams with a Total Team Handicap Index less than 8

  • Printing only players who are female with a Course Handicap more than 20

  • Printing only players/teams who have earned purse money in a tournament (e.g., gift certificates/check)

  • Printing only male players with a birthday before 1/28/1985

In this article, we will discuss how to apply filters on your reports. As you read along, you will realize that you can apply very simple filters and also more advanced and complex filters.

Applying Filters to Reports:

When editing the structure of a report, you have the option to filter at every level (as shown below), except Report Header and Column Header.

If you have applied a filter to any of the levels, you will see that filter at the structure level (as shown below).

To apply a filter, follow these directions:

  1. Go to Round > Report Center.

  2. Click "Edit" on an existing report you wish to edit or create a new report.

  3. Click "Filter" for the content level you wish to apply filters.

  4. Click "+Add Rule".

  5. Select the field you wish to filter by.

  6. Set the rule to "Include" or "Exclude" the select options.

  7. Add additional filters if necessary.

  8. Click "Refresh Preview" to see the filtered report.

  9. Click "Save".

In the sequence below, we are creating a Ladies Handicap Report where we want to list only women for a mixed event. Because we want to exclude men in the report, we need to apply a filter. In this case, we will only need to filter one level.

The report will then list only Females (as shown below).

You can also apply multiple filters across one level. To add additional filters, follow these directions:

  1. Click "+Add Rule".

  2. Select the field you wish to filter by.

  3. Set the rule to "Include" or "Exclude" the select options.

  4. Add additional filters if necessary.

  5. Click "Refresh Preview" to see the filtered report.

  6. Click "Save".

As an example, let's continue with the previous filters. Not only do we want to only list women in the report, we also only want to exclude women with a Handicap Index higher than 10. In this case, we want to apply another filter (as shown below). Notice the "AND" toggle switch. That means the players need to meet both of the filtering requirements.

What happens when you turn that toggle switch to "OR"? Let's look at the example below.

In this filter, in order for the player to be displayed on this report, they need to be a female OR have an 18-hole Handicap Index less than 10. So, in this case, the players need to meet only one of the two filtering criteria you have set up.

Note: When filters are applied using text entry, the text being entered is case-sensitive.

Advanced Filtering:

Filtering reports is usually pretty simple. However, sometimes there are more complex cases where multiple filtering rules need to be "nested". A filtering rule that has more than one layer to it is a "nested" rule. To create and apply these nested rules, click on "Advanced Filtering" on the right.

Say, for example, you have a mixed field of players in an event where you are applying a maximum Handicap Index of 36.4 for men and 40.4 for women. For this event, you'd like to create a report for all the players who have exceeded the maximum Handicap Index. We need to create some nested (multi-layered) rules. Again, start by clicking on "Advanced Filtering".

The screenshot above shows the setup for this type of filter. In this case, we are printing for men with a Handicap Index greater than 36.4 OR women with a Handicap Index greater than 40.4. Notice there are two primary filtering rules that both include two layers of filtering (Gender & Handicap Index).
