Q: I am trying to set up a Four-Ball match play tournament. Take the best ball from both teams. If the best ball is the same, they actually may not halve the hole. We then look at the 2nd best (other teammates) score and use that as the tie breaker. For instance, Tom and Jim are partners playing a match against Steve and Mike. On the first hole of the match, the scores are Tom (4), Jim (5), Steve (4), Mike (6). The best ball from both teams is 4, however after looking at the 2nd best score from each team, the Tom/Jim team wins the hole because Jim's 5 beats Mike's 6. Can this be set up?
A: Yes, if you go to your tournament setup, select "Best Ball, Break Tie on 2nd Hole" in the "Balls" dropdown menu.
If there is still a tie after looking at the 2nd best ball, the hole will be halved.
This tie-breaking option is also available when setting up foursome v. all foursomes match play. You can take the best two balls of each foursome. If the match is still tied for that hole, use the 3rd best score in each foursome as the tie breaker. You can also count the best 3 balls, and use the 4th best ball as the tie breaker.
